Aerial 360º spherical images

I’ve been enjoying taking aerial 360º shots using the DJI Inspire 1 and Phantom 3. They take only a couple of minutes to capture, and processing is easy using web-based services like 360cities. Here’s a shot I took earlier today in San Francisco with an Inspire 1. I can’t seem to embed the spherical version ...

The Science of Drones with Eric Cheng | Inquiring Minds

A couple weeks ago, I spent a morning up on Mt. Davidson with Indre Viskontas and Kishore Hari recording a podcast about drones for Inquiring Minds. Today, Mother Jones posted an article about drones and science, and included a short video of our flights from up on the small mountain in San Francisco. One of the first things I did when the DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ was released was go to Golden Gate Park and photograph the California Academy of Sciences from the air. The roof of the building is incredible and really screams to be photographed from low altitude.

A fun morning of flying DJI Inspire 1s with Tested.com’s Norman Chan and Joey Fameli, Mythbuster’s Adam Savage, and volcano-diver Sam Cossman.

What a lovely view this morning from Hunter’s Point in San Francisco. Shot on DJI Inspire 1.

DJI hung out at last night’s photography-themed California Academy of Sciences NightLife. We had Phantoms and a couple S1000s on display—lots of fun! Huge thanks to Romeo Durscher, Mark Johnson, Barry Blanchard, George Krieger, Jeff Cable, Steve Mandel, Archer Koch for helping us out.

Come hang out with us at the California Academy of Sciences (in San Francisco) tomorrow night (Thursday, July 31) between 6-10pm! This Thursday’s NightLife event is themed, “BigPicture,” and features CalAcad’s first-ever photography exhibit (and, more). DJI will be there showing off aerial imaging quadcopters, and you can meet local aerial imagers Romeo Durscher, Mark Johnson, Barry Blanchard, George Krieger, Jeff Cable, Steve Mandel and me. ...

A few buddies and I spent the early morning today flying at an abandoned structure near San Francisco. All of them had zippy mini-quads and were rocketing all around—and, inside—the structure. I wish I had a sport flyer, too, but I haven’t had the time to do a build. While they shot between support pillars ...
