I found in a round-about way this stuff called glutathione. From what I've read, it is best produced by the amino acid cysteine. Apparently this gluta thing is an antioxidant which is good for general health but also very good for the liver. Does anyone know more about this stuff and if it would help us at all? Has anyone tried it?
All you chemistry professionals out there, please let me know what you think. Cheers
Hey Steph.
Yeah, I tried it once. There are a couple of companies who make these "antioxidants". I bought a bottle and gave it a try about a year ago, from this place: http://www.lef.org/newshop/items/item00802.html . This stuff had the glutathione in it and was supposedly designed specifically to reverse the buildup of acetaldehyde we get since our ALDH2 (or whatever) enzymes are all messed up!
Well, IT DIDN'T WORK AT ALL FOR ME. I tried using them exactly per the instructions on at least four occasions to make sure that it wasn't just a fluke. Each time, I had all of the classic "blush" symptoms: beet red, throbbing pulse, somewhat dizzy, generally feeling bad.
Like everyone else, I just want to be able to enjoy a couple of drinks and not have to worry about such bad reactions. I'm not saying this won't work for anyone else out there, it just didn't work for me. I dumped them in the trash.
All that said, I've had very positive results using the famotidine method. So far, that's been my most successful method.
Hope that helps.
