Topic: Side effects

Use this thread to discuss any side-effects or any long-term health concerns, that you have from taking pepcid.

You can also use this area to discuss any unusual symptoms that you normally get from drinking (with or without pepcid), like feeling nauseous and/or puking after a sip or 2 of alcohol.

Here's a starter for discussion... I'll move other relevant posts once I work out how to do it! ;)

However, I've been noticed weird side effects lately, like I've gotten sick more times this year than ever before.  My neck glands gets swollen here and there for no reason.  I also have a hard time sleeping, I used to be able to sleep 8 hours no problem.  Now I can't sleep more than 5 hours.  Plus, I read about this scary article that the cure might cause impotence!!

Great to hear that you have found some new confidence with pepcid. :)
About your health, have you spoken to your doctor about your swollen glands? Have you told them that you've been takig pepcid? Does the doctor think that taking pepcid has contributed to your health problems? Do you have hyper-thyroid? -- ie your thyroid is working overtime hence the swelling and lack of sleep.
Let us know what your doctor says and if they think it's related to your pepcid use.

It would be interesting for us to know how regularly you take the pills and how many mg you take each time.

Re: Side effects

I haven't seen my doctor, but I had jaw surgery about a month ago and basically slept for a month (like 12-16 hrs a day thanks to vicodin and tylenol PMs).  I'm feeling much better now since I haven't drank a drop of alcohol in that time or taken a pepsid AC.  Im also prohibited from drinking for the next 4 weeks...

Before that I was taking pepsid AC max strength for 6 months about every friday and saturday nights.  I'll let you guys know once I heal up and start drinking again if I have any problems...

Re: Side effects

I have been to a doctor recently regarding a stomach acid issue.  In the discussions we spoke about taking Pepcid AC on a regular basis.  The doctor commented that there are no significant side effects, however there is the possibility that the Pepcid AC can mask the symptoms of more serious underlying problems that may require treatment rather than symptomatic relief.

Well, it's nice to know that your ear surgery is now doing fine. I think it's the effect of the surgery that was made on your ear. Soon, it will be lost. However, it was almost five months, does it pain again?

Re: Side effects

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Pepcid: Constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; headache.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Pepcid
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); convulsions (seizures).

Re: Side effects

Attention to anyone who's been using antacids to counter their asian glow:

I've been using assorted antacids on a regular basis for about two years now, and recently, within the past month or so, I've started experiencing side effects (such as high amounts of bloating and gas, as well as incontinence ), as it seems my sustained usage is actually interfering with my digestive system. I did some reading which supports this and it's actually very concerning.

Wikipedia says: Constant use of antacids leads to a condition called acid rebound where the stomach begins to over secrete acid in order to make up for the quantity that is being neutralized.

I have some more sources that I can't find at the moment, but will post when I get the chance

Re: Side effects

So over the past summer one time I drank too much and the next morning woke up and threw up a few times. But since that incident, I have had problems drinking. I do not drink often at all but when I do I have problems. If I even take one shot of anything then I have the feeling to throw up. I used to be able to tolerate so many shots but now I can't even take one. It's very frusterating and I would like to know if anyone can help me so that I can get over this drinking problem so I can go back to drinking many shots without feeling quesy like I used to be. Thanks in advance!

Re: Side effects

The Pepcid my friend took is expired (02/04), what should we do? Any side effects?
He has a stomach ache last Monday so he took some Pepcid but he found out that it is expired 3 years ago. I think it worsen his stomach ache as it is still not gone. Please explain if there are side effects of expired Pepcid. Thanks!

Re: Side effects

Hey Andrew,

If your friend has taken 3 year old medication and is experiencing bad side effects shouldn't they be going to a doctor?

regards,

j

Re: Side effects

yes you must consult a doctor because if some meditation cause bad effects on health then its a real problem.

Re: Side effects

I do agree with nichole1221 that consultation with doctor is necessary in case of any problem . I hope you will be recovered .

Re: Side effects

I've been taking Pecid AC Max (no generics!) for over 8 years and have NEVER had ANY side effects.  Here's my formula:

I'm a 5'-10" male, 175lbs and I take 5 Pepcid AC Max with a tall glass of water 40-50 minutes before drinking, and on a relatively empty stomach.  Don't eat at least 2 hours before taking Pepcid and eat light throughout the day.  I know that sounds counter-intuitive (no food to absorb the alcohol?) but trust me on this.

It's also best move around during the day before going out drinking for the night - for some reason it effects your metabolism and enhances the properties of Pepcid (don't sit on the couch all day gorging yourself on pizza as it's effectiveness will be GREATLY reduced and sometimes eliminated altogether).   If you're going on a dinner date, company outing etc., start drinking first at the 40 minute mark (Grey Goose and Red Bull works the best for me) and then eat lightly, slowly and sparingly as you drink.  It's best to get one drink in before you start eating and I would avoid beer at all costs.

On a side note, I'm willing to bet that it's purely psychological for 90% of those who claim "side-effects" (i.e.  too easy to get drunk, stomach issues etc).  Baloney.  I've been doing this for years and given advice to my friends for years and never heard any problems.   If you're a health nut and worried about any potential long-term consequences, it's best not to drink at all!!.... but alas, that simply isn't a realistic option for socially engaged asians - particularly those of us who live in the West.

Re: Side effects

I've been taking 2 x pepcid ac for a while now whenever I drink, and it seems to limit the redness, however, it definitely isn't as effective as it once was, maybe that's because I'm using the generic (cheaper) stuff.  Anyway, the other thing is, I'm finding that I just get tired when I drink these days, and just need to sleep, which isn't great when everyone around me is happily chatting away, and all I want to do is go home and sleep!  Any thoughts or solutions?

Re: Side effects

I dont know if you realize it or not but you can get a generic pepcid for WAAAAAAAAAAAAY cheaper! I am talking about 112 20 mg pills of pepcid for $22. If anyone is interested send me an email and I will send you the link.
