I spent the morning flying around San Diego with Mark Petersen (another Phantom pilot). We went to Mission Beach Park and Scripps Pier and had absolutely perfect flying conditions. Mark flew his first FPV flight—always fun to watch the first one! 🙂

Shooting into the sun gives the scene way too large a dynamic range to successfully capture using a GoPro. Next time, I will probably spot meter to expose the clouds successfully. Also, there was a lot of wind, which makes for shaky ...

I absolutely love the aerial perspective. This is a picture of my wife snorkeling outside of Swallows Cave in Vava’u, Tonga. You can see the little mushroom island’s entire underwater reef structure.

Aerial footage taken in Tonga, September, 2013. Huge thanks to Julian and Ildi Cohen and the crew of the S/Y Bella Principessa for their hospitality (I used the catamaran as a launch platform). GoPro polarizer solutions for Phantom Zenmuse H3-2D gimbal

LayerLens for GoPro3 with circular polarizer lens mounted on GoPro in Zenmuse H3-2D gimbal Lately, I’ve been flying my quadcopters over the ocean, which makes me want to put a polarizer over the GoPro HERO3 Black camera that I use on my DJI Phantom. So far, I’ve found two solutions for putting a polarizer on a GoPro ...

The high-end MōVI stabilized camera system is based on the same brushless gimbals we use for stabilized aerial imaging work. I put this handheld GoPro HERO3 gimbal together in just a few minutes using a Rotorpixel HERO3 gimbal (http://rotorpixel.com), an Opteka X-Grip, 2S LiPo battery, 4 x AA battery housing, and a servo tester. (Source: ...

Who says brushless gimbals need to be attached to multirotor aircraft? I took a Rotorpixel HERO3 brushless gimbal and adapted it into a handheld GoPro stabilization system by adding an Opteka X-Grip, 2S LiPo battery, 4 x AA battery housing, and servo tester. Freefly Systems made news at NAB this year by announcing the MōVI, a high-end, stabilized camera platform ...

Once you have a 2-axis gimbal on your quadcopter, it becomes really easy to take aerial panoramas. I sent my DJI Phantom quadcopter up into the air on GPS lock mode with the GoPro 3 camera taking pictures in timelapse mode—1 picture every 2 seconds. I spun the Phantom around once, capturing a full spin (360º) in ...

I set up a Rotorpixel Gimbal Hero 3 today (made specifically for the GoPro HERO3 camera), and it is totally awesome.  The GoPro Hero 3 camera just snaps into the camera mount, and the whole gimbal can be powered off of the auxiliary power lead on a DJI Phantom quadcopter. The isolation mount is flexible, so ...
