I did a few flights in Iceland today, which was a lot of fun—the country is so beautiful! I’m not really here on an aerial-imaging trip, but my wife has been patient enough to let me do a flight here and then. She is the best. 🙂

We are in Borgarnes tonight, which sits on a beautiful little peninsula just north of Reykjavik. During the day, we circumnavigated Snæfellsnes peninsula and had dinner in Stykkishólmur, which is a quaint, lovely little harbor town with a cool-looking, modern church.

I have, with me, two Phantom 2 quadcopters. The first is a Phantom 2 w/Zenmuse H3-3D gimbal w/ GoPro HERO 3+ Black camera. I’m using a Boscam TS-353 FPV transmitter and a Black Pearl diversity receiver monitor. The second is a naked Phantom 2 with Ricoh GR camera custom mounted to it (also with Boscam Tx). I use the Ricoh for stills, and the GoPro for both stills and video.

It is windy in Iceland, so flying has been a bit of a challenge. It is also really far north, and I suspect that I’m having some magnetic declination issues because I’m seeing more toilet bowling than normal. More on this as I get more flights in up here. I’m super excited to be driving all the way around the island with flying cameras in the bag!

Also, a huge thanks to Einar Erlendsson (FocusOnNature workshops) for his advice. If you’re coming to Iceland and want the best photo guide here, contact Einar!
