Re: Suggestions for new topics

Hi everyone,

Hopefully there are people who still visit this forum, even after this recent influx of spam messages.

Since I have tried everything from Pepcid AC to NoGlo with inconsistent results, I've been looking for another solution to this problem. Lately, I've found this product which claims to reduce the flush by restoring normal acidity levels in the body.

They're called 7.2 Alkaline Booster tablets.

There's a video on Youtube that explains how the product works. Just look up "Ray Gin Asian Flush" and you'll find it (sorry, but I can't link).

Can anybody verify the science behind it? Seems legit to me and Dr. Ray Gin, who appears in the video, is an actual doctor with credentials whose patients are pretty happy with him, according to Yelp reviews online.

I might just give this a try, but I'm done with spending money on products that don't work.

Re: Suggestions for new topics

I have been using Pepcid to control the redness for years and I swear by it. I now use it in conjunction with RhotoV eye drops. The green box from CVS or Rite Aid is the only one that works. Don't bother with any other brand. They will not work.

Reduced redness in the face with Pepcid and the RhotoV drops...the white of your eyes will brighten up to a shade you didn't even know you could have. Trust me. Best stack ever.

Re: Suggestions for new topics

Hello,

i am new to the forum and it is good to know that this 'asian flush' thing happens to a lot of people and there is a dedicated forum for this!! i always thought this AF was a hopeless case and I have learnt to sort of accept it... this forum brings me hope!

im **cough** 32 **cough**, male, 100% chinese, and i have been aware of my 'conditions' ever since i started drinking in my teens! at the time i though i was just very unfortunate to be 'allergic' to alcohol, and I must've inherited this from my dear mother. I am the oldest out of 3 in my family - both me, mum, and youngest sister suffers from AF. However my brother (middle) and dad dont - they can drink pints without showing any sign of redness, and it normally takes me 1/4 pint for me flush!

like with everyone here i have tried many things to combat this, although all is with 'natural' methods, i.e. not taking supplements like Pepcid, antacid, etc., mainly coz i didnt know they helped!? but i would try different diet, no diet, drinking water before, in between, etc. I did find that the most effective way for me was to drink on an empty stomach! sure there are signs of slight flushing however it is never that bad, and if i 'ride it out' and carry on the flushing will go away - at some stage I will give in to a nasty burger on the way home from a night and as soon as i start eating i become a beacon! and soon after that it is game over for me...

also if i do drink i find it by moving about (i.e. pub-crawl, bar-hopping) helps as well - the 1st pint will affect me but i can 'control' this by drinking slowly, there after I can sink many pints between pubs / bars before i go red again and by this time we are usually in a club so i dont really care how i look... well. this is also why i dont / cant sit in a quite pub and have a drink or four, the flush will just get worse and soon after i get really tired, to a point where i want to pass out (even if im standing which i have done before!!)! and when i am at this stage there is no turning back - my vision goes and i get this massive head ache! I need to either go home and go to sleep or, somewhere with good music where i can boogey in which case i will get second wind and i can carry on drinking till the early hours.

Sooo, for me the biggest obstacle with AF is that i get tired, i have sort of learnt to accept the redness and so has my non-flushing friends (before they would just point and laugh at me!!), beside this Flushing thing for me can be 'controlled' if i am being tactful before and during drinking. dont get me wrong, now that i know there are remedies out there i will give them a try, however i want to know if anyone gets really tired as well like me and if so what do you guys do to combat this?? i want to know this more than ever as i am apparently going to Octoberfest in Germany this year which involves sitting around a table and drinking lots of beer all day and night with distant in-laws that i have never met! i dont want to be the party pooper that has to tap out early because 'i cant handle my drink'!

any comments welcome!!

Ta!

Re: Suggestions for new topics

Hi sharky,

Thanks for sharing your story and your experiences with AF! Yes, it's pretty cool that we can communicate with a community of AF sufferers and learn from them. I haven't read much about abstaining from food, but it is something that I haven't tried yet. Will do that next time. Have you tried taking Pepcid and abstaining from food?

I'll be studying abroad through my university this fall, and I plan on going to Oktoberfest in Munich as well. If we run into each other, I hope that we won't be able to tell that we are members of this forum, if you catch my drift!!

Re: Suggestions for new topics

I'd love to post the following question and get some feedback: I was diagnosed by a gastroenterologist as being ALDH deficient, but I do not experience a flush and am not of asian descent. Is it possible to be ALDH deficient without those two factors at play?

Re: Suggestions for new topics

I would like to start a new topic on AF Formula "afformula.com". I am the owner of Goldwin Health, makers of AF Formula. We are receiving incredible feedback from our customers and I would like to let other members know about our product. It is a natural supplement that you need to take everyday. When taken daily, we are seeing a 90%+ success rate of reducing or eliminating the red, blotchy, hot skin on your face, neck and back associated with Alcohol Flush Reaction. We ship world wide and have a 90 day guarantee. If you are not satisfied you may return the bottles to our manufacturing plant and we will issue you a full refund. We opened a London shipping facility this week which is helping us delivery orders to the EU much faster. Pepcid works, however when taken over a long period of time and combined with alcohol it can seriously damage your body. If you have questions please reach out to me via this forum, our facebook page or our website. I sincerely hope that AF Formula can provide you with relief.

Re: Suggestions for new topics

Bit of an odd one, but I'm just wondering if any biochemist or medical peeps could answer this: if we have two deficient copies of the gene, how DOES acetaldehyde eventually break down? Is there an alternative metabolic pathway? (I just really hate the flush and don't wanna lose hope for an eventual cure lol.)

Re: Suggestions for new topics

Hey guys, got a question a starnge one im  hoping some of you may be able to help me with. Im 32 from Britain, no chinese, japanese etc heritage, yet last year I developed Asian blush/flush. Ive been drinking all my life but for some reason it started a about year ago and has spread to all different types of drinks now whereas at the start it was only one type of beer. Has anyone ever heard of this? all the research ive done suggests that it is inherited and yet no one in my family has this or like i said is asian. Super confused, any help or advice or knowledge shared would be appreciated.

Re: Suggestions for new topics

Hey all,

I'd like to start a thread about the reported increased risk of esophageal and other digestive tract cancers in asian flushers. There are a fair number of studies out there that all suggest an increased risk but it's sometimes tricky to understand what the take-away should be in terms of day-to-day drinking habits. For instance, one study found that flushing heavy drinkers (33 standard drinks or more per week) have an esophageal cancer risk factor that is 89 times that of a non-flushing, non-drinker. Sounds scary, right? But when measured against the worldwide esophageal cancer rates of approximately 4 per 100,000, an 89-times risk would still only yield an incidence-rate of about 3.5 out of 100, which is, arguably, not that bad.

Anyway, just an example of how some of these studies can be hard to put in context. Anyone else looked at the research that's out there? What impacts has it had on your drinking?

Re: Suggestions for new topics

Hi obliko,

I'm also pretty concerned about this. I definitely want to put my health above all else, but I enjoy drinking too! I know there are higher rates of esophageal cancer in Asia and from the research I've done, the incidence rates there are about 0.02%, which is slightly encouraging.

I tried but I can't seem to post a link to the source from the study
