Hello everyone,
first of all, I'd like to say I feel very relieved to have found this small community. Asian Flush is a real burden in social circumstances, so I hope we will find a way to get rid of it sometimes soon.
I am a white "causasian" with blond hair, and yet suffering from AF. Actually my mother is vietnamese, but no-one could tell at first sight. This makes it worse I think, because people are not used to see "white people" flushing so much when drinking.
I started getting drunk with friends at the age of 16, and always experienced the flushing. After one single drink my face and neck will turn bright red, my eyes will be sleepy, I feel warm and my heart beats fast. In the past I didn't really care about it and continued drinking at least once a week. But now that I grew old, it is getting more and more difficult to accept it.
After some research on the internet, I have tried many of the "tricks" mentioned in this forum. My conclusion is that some of them DO WORK, but not are not 100% effective (residual redness), and do not ALWAYS work. Here are the few things that are true to me :
- drinking slowly is very important
- eating several hours before the first drink, or not eating at all
- taking a dump before drinking (im serious!)
- rather drinking vodka and energy drinks (redbull contains niacin!)
- taking zantac 1-2 hours before drinking
- avoid sitting too long or remain too passive
- avoid crowded space
- taking aspirin
- using skincare cream
- have a long sleep the night before
When I manage to follow most of this rules, my flushing isn't bad, although you can notice some slight redness. THat is probably highly unhealthy but I manage to get very drunk without looking like a total freak. However If I am to stay in a very light room, I'd rather not drink too much.
Btw, I couldn't help thinking that since we have a quite large community contributing to this forum, why don't we try to run a statistical study on which drugs/methods worked and for who?
