Topic: USVA Potentially Researching a Cure

Ok, so this is a link to the US Veteran's Affairs website that has a post about a compound that was researched (patented in 2004) by a scientist named HT Nagasawa that is specifically designed to treat 'asian flush`(elevated blood acetaldehyde).  I think you should all check it out:

This is what it says partway through: "The potential markets include: 1) antidote for acute aldehyde or alcohol poisoning, 2) adjunct preventive and therapeutic drug therapy for chronic alcoholism and 3) deodorant medication for populations affected by a particular genetic defect"

- Now deodorant medication sounds strange but I think the point is that it neutralizes acetaldehyde specifically, which is the cause of asian glow.  The reason for continuing to look around for medical research on this subject is that Pepcid AC is not a real cure!  I find taking an anti-histamine in order to mask the effects of acetaldehyde to be a bad idea.

Anyways, the point of this link is to show that there is some LEGITIMATE research that has gone/is going on about this subject, but I think there is less interest than there should be, and maybe we as a group should pool some money or resources or something, like a cancer drive...

Not to say that our problem comes even close to being as big as cancer, BUT, it does affect HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of people, and in fact, many people who do drink through this reaction do actually get esophageal and GI cancer.  So this is a big issue, and we should think harder about it than just taking pepcid.

i think this is really interesting.  also the part that says-

"The technology listed below is not available to the public at this time. This technology is in the early stage of research and requires further development before it is ready for the marketplace"

- sounds like it needs what you were saying, ie additional interest or funding in order to continue resarch.  and there obviously is a ton of interest and we seem to have enough money for pepcid ac, so it should be possible to throw $5-$10 at a real cure, i would do it if someone could prove he wasnt scamming me.

It may help to secure funding or grants for the organization (if this is in fact the hurdle they are having problems overcoming) if we show collective interest in their research and outcomes.  As one potential proprietary market for their research it would be a good idea to touch bases with them by writing to the address listed on their website and let them know of our existence and take it from there.

It may be effective in terms of generating results to mobilize as an organization, maybe come up with a charter etc to carry more clout instead of just being a simple discussion board.  Your thoughts on this people?

But back on topic, I could write out a cover letter to The Department of Veterans Affairs, letting us know who we are and enquiring on the status of this particular project

It would be great to see something like this reach commercialization.  I wonder if they will be able to produce it for an affordable cost as I can imagine this would not be at the top of the government subsidy list.
