Re: what percent of asians have the blush?

i've found that it's more than just alcohol.  certain beers and wine do not make me blush at all while others do me in, so there must be something about the ingredients of drinks (i.e., tannins and sulfites and what not).

anothing thing i've found is that blushing is just one of my symptoms.  i also get tachycardic (racing heart), tachypneic (fast respiratory rate), and pruritic (itchy).

go figure.

Re: what percent of asians have the blush?

I'm only half chinese and I get a reaction to anything. I get the redness, racing heart and pounding head.

it's just not fair!

I'm half Vietnamese you think your unfortunate? i think only like 10% of vietnamese get flushed, cause most of my uncles don't. even those on my dad's side. only 1 does. and no family friends do.

Re: what percent of asians have the blush?

im half japanese and than like half european. yeah i get red as shit and then i get a really bad headache. and its around 50% of all asians have the redness. and also a lot of native americans

Re: what percent of asians have the blush?

Well I think its near about 40 to 50% in all asians.  Its also depend which type of drink you had.

Re: what percent of asians have the blush?

50% of asians seems to be a rough estimate according to what i have read.  Also a smaller percentage of those from middle eastern origin.

Re: what percent of asians have the blush?

I have also read that it mainly affects those of Japanese, Korean and Chinese decent.

Re: what percent of asians have the blush?

I am very new here. I found out about Asian Flush from my 24 year old son! He had been out with friends & there was a young lady of Asian decent at the establishment where they went. She was seated at the bar & drinking a soft drink. He asked her why sit at the bar & have a soft drink & she explained that she had what was called "Asian Flush"! 1 drink would make her seriously ill.. He then questioned her a little further. Here is a little family back ground My father is 1/2 Chinese, myself a 1/4 & my Sons 1/8. After speaking with the nice informative young lady, the next day he told me about why his arms turn scarlet red! If he would have never said anything I would not know about Asian Flush, I am a very light drinker, I never liked the side effects - Racing heart, getting hot all of a sudden, & chest pressure. Therefore since I did not like these feelings I just refrained from drinking alcohol.. I am thankful that the young lady was forthcoming with the info she gave my son.. We have noticed lately that he is getting this weird looking rash after drinking - I also think it depends on what type of alcohol he drinks that gives him different symptoms.. At least we now have an idea what is going on...  I ran across this sight looking for information, I am finding it informative..

It sounds like allergic reaction than Asian flush.  I know some people get bad reaction from beer but not from wine or vodka.  Asian flush happens regardless of which type of alcoholic drink.
