Hey everyone. :)
I stumbled across this site the other day and immediately bought Pepcid AC max. Took two pills (40 mg total), waited 45 minutes, and had a glass of wine, which ordinarily would tomato-ize me. I had the rapid heartbeat that usually signals redness, and I felt warm and flushed. But I looked in the mirror and I looked normal! I didn't look like I was standing under an infrared bulb; it was all good.
I didn't get shitfaced drunk and only had a glass of wine, so I don't know how well it would work at, say, a night out with my K-town friends. But the initial experiment was great.
Ya, I get that feel also. Like my face is hottttttttt and I'm like oh noooo! it's flushing!! then I look in the mirror and it's pinkish. At that point I just sip on my drink, try to drink some more water, and it goes away for me. Then I can drink whatever.
Lately I've been taking 3 20mg pepcids.... I dunno if I should be doing that. Too much? Even still, sometimes I still get blotchy red in my face. Then it goes away...
I only really drink on the weekends if anything. 1 Night, maybe 2.
I still hate lying to people when the sudden 'hey lets go for a drink' pops up. :(
How's everyone else doing?? Any cures yet out there? lol

Hi sweetpea. You should read through the thread to see everyone's responses so far. I know it's a lot, but it will help.
To cut to the gist of it, as silly as it sounds, you should do some at home experiments with pepcid if you can. Buy the maximum strength ones and take 2 20mg pills about an hour or two before you plan on drinking. When taking them, drink about a bottle of water. Let your body break down the pill. Then drink whatever you plan on drinking in the future. Beer? Start off with one, sip it down. See if you turn red, the effects, etc.. Two.. etc... Or, you could make a mixed drink or a glass of wine. Drink that, see how bad it gets. It's really just trial and error.
I take 3 20MG pills before I do anything alcohol related. I only drink on weekends though. Once, maybe twice. I wouldn't recommend becoming a full fledged alcoholic if this works for you. but yeah... just do some at home experiments really to test your limits. Once you do that, come back on here and let us know!
Edit: Also, if you say you get sleepy because of alcohol.. maybe you should make sure you're fully rested before you indulge yourself. If not, you can always drink mixed drinks with Red Bull. (IE: most girls I know drink Red Bull / Vodka) Or you can just drink another type of energy drink before you go out.... Like I said, it's all about the experimentation really..
i'm excited to try the pepcid ac max - my college aged son recommended that i use benedryl, which i have been doing for about two years - and it works well but it makes me drunk and tired quickly, maybe he is trying to get a hold of an inheritance early by killing off my liver! i'm not asian but i really do get flushed on my chest, upper arms and face - it's not a good thing. i will write to let you know how it goes, i'll probably have a couple of beers and then a couple glasses of red wine - the only other thing that i really like is spicy bloody mary's, which i will try another time - and i'll let you know how they go, too. i'm german, polish, irish, english, danish and psycho (just kidding about the psycho part)! i'm going to look for a picture when i've been drinking and post it, too!
i just looked at the box and it said not to take two tablets at one time - they are 20 mg each, pepcid ac max - i'm worried that it can be harmful.
Tried Pepcid Max for the first time last night and it works wonders. We had a pre-game at a friends house before we went out for to the bar (took Pepcid 40mg an hour before) and the first couple shots I did kinda made me feel really warm and I felt my face getting red, but I didn't check in the mirror.
The best part was at the bar, I followed some of the advice from this thread and just drank more "clean" liquors, I drank mostly Grey Goose and Tonic and I felt none of the effects of the Asian Flush, but again I didn't check the mirror, but I did get a comment about how my eyes were red, but by then it was 4 am and I was tired, so that might have been the reason. But no comment on the red face thing.
Afterwards I got some food and felt kinda nauseas, but I do have acid reflux so that might have been the reason.
Interestingly enough, I do agree that consistent drinking does help the Flush. I used to drink every weekend and the flush lessened, but recently I haven't drank as much and even after a quarter of a beer and I start feeling it kick in.
I also think it's a bad idea to take H2 blockers and drink like a fish every weekend, so I'd probably never do this unless I really had to, everything in moderation!
I didn't eat anything before or during drinking. I think the goal for me now is to find out what my limit with food is. The hunger pains and lack of energy is almost as bad as the flush, for me anyways.
is it ok to take the famo Pills instead of pepcid?! its got the same stuff kind of..
So what works better Pepcid complete(chewable) or Pepcid max?
Chewable can probably break down alot quicker and you dont have to wait an hour...but Max has more famo.
I get the Asian Glow really bad. In England you can't get pepcid AC so I tried Pepcid two 10mg and took 2 tablets and didn't get the glow at all! woo hoo! I've been telling everyone about it!
Hello everyone. Since I found this forum about a year ago, I've been taking pepcid AC 20mg every time I go out to drink. Sometimes 4-5 times a week, sometimes once a fortnight. I usually take 2 tablets about 30mins beforehand. It takes away around 50% of my redness but I'm starting to think it makes me really tired? Alot of the times, I would struggle to stay awake after a few drinks......anyone else got this side effect?
And also, I try to avoid bars that are too warm and stuffy, and I usually drink slowlyish.
Another thing is, I've always tried to have a big fat dinner before I go out as I thought drinking on an empty stomach gets you wasted....but after reading abit more on this forum today, I think maybe I took the wrong approach. I'm going to try eating really little beforehand if I'm going to drink, I'll be back with results.
what about just famo pills???
I think pepcid is just famo pills so i would give it a try and see.
On another note, in the UK we don't get pepcid so does anyone know any alternatives? Has anyone tried gaviscon?
I have hear so much about Pepcid and the great results people have had, Im in Australia and does not seem to be sold here, only Zantac which is the only thing near. I tried Zantac and did not work at all for me. I am travelling to Malaysia and Singapore tomorrow, can Pepcid be bought over the counter at any pharmacy? thanks
In regard to the food comments that you guys are wondering about, I feel that eating while drinking is a biggggggg no no. You'll either end up puking or turning rrrrrrred. The food breaks down the famo. At least for me, that's what happens. It's terrible since most people I know go out for food and drinks, like normal people. :(
So, majority of the time I either snack on something small and say I'm not hungry, or just not eat at all while drinking..
Lately I've been taking 3 20mg famos....... I still get kinda red for about 15 - 20 minutes, then it goes away and then I'm fine. I should start experimenting with 2. I too fear that this isn't healthy for us...... but, what can we do. :/
I'm 1/4 Japanese. I turn red with blotchy skin on my neck, shoulders and face after approximately 2 beers. I've dealt with this for years and learned of "Asian Flush" in a college Toxicology class back in 1997. Although I knew the cause I didn't know of the "cure" or curtailment. Pepcid Max seems to work in keeping the flush at bay. I would advise against taking more than the recommended dosage on the package w/o checking with your physician.
Eating immediately prior to, during or immediately after consuming alcohol assures the flush (most definitely w/o the Pepcid precaution).
It seems the less I eat or consume, the easier it is for my body to process the alcohol. It almost seems like my body's resources are being used exclusively for the processing of alcohol rather than being concentrated on the digestion of food.
I'm currently a college student majoring in biology and a pre-med and I've decided to try and tackle this problem from a clear scientific standpoint. I'm 100% Thai male and I got alot of vital monitoring equipment available to me. I'm thinking about first testing out the Pepcid AC 30 min before drinking on a full stomach because that would be the situation that I would think most people find themselves in. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

hey,
im in Australia too. But i buy if off ebay. Its pretty cheap and its totally legit. the only way to get it here is to get a doctors prescription. let me know if you want to know the person i bought it off.
Hi everybody! I have symptoms of this asian flush and it really sucks! I get red and my heartbeat increases immensely. I don't mind the redness, but I also tend to vomit if I have more than one drink, and most of the time I don't feel intoxicated at all! I am going to try the Pepcid AC this weekend but I would like to know if anyone that has tried this has experienced less vomiting? Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Hi, wow first of all I'm glad I'm not the only one out there...for a few months I thought I was. I'm a 100% Korean male and have suffered this "Asian flush" for a few years, to the point where I just can't drink. My recent symptoms included after taking a shot of soju which is like 20% alcohol I didn't feel drunk at all but, turned red literally like a tomato, felt dizzy and sick, my hands felt like they were pumping, and my heart was beating so fast I thought I was gonna have a heart attack. Another instance was at a party I had a few sips of dark beer and immediately felt sick and turned a bit red in the cheeks and decided not to drink more it was really not even half a beer. I'm hoping Pepcid Ac will work I'm the only one out of all my friends who experience this and most of them are Korean as well which is weird considering surveys say that 50% of Asians suffer from this deficiency. The reason for this post is does Pepcid Ac work not only to reduce the redness but, does it enable you guys to actually drink? I have never been drunk and it's seriously disabling my social life when the girls want me to take a shot with them I look like a pussy saying I don't drink and in Korean culture if your a man you drink and you smoke or your not considered one. I don't exactly have a problem with the redness (I do get tomato red though) it's just the racing heartbeat and the sickness I feel which just disables me from being able to drink to actually feel pleasure from it. Does Pepcid AC work for those symptoms as well? Thanks for any input.
Edit: Oh and both of those examples that I showed of my symptoms I was eating food while drinking. The food was hot and a bit spicy right after I took the shot I felt horrible immediately but, kept my cool for awhile than, out of nowhere I threw up all over the front of the restaurant and this was with only 1 shot...
Happy Thanksgiving all. We all need a facebook group :)
Cheers.
is it ok to take the famo Pills instead of pepcid?! its got the same stuff kind of..
Not kind of...exactly. Generic famo is exactly the same as the name-brand Pepcid AC. I get 170 pills of generic famotidine for some ridiculously low price like $15 at my wholesale club (BJs Club here in Massachusetts). I used to pay three times that for name-brand. I can tell you that they work just as well as Pepcid. Save your money if you can find the generic. It totally works.
Best,
S
I just bought ZANTAC 'cause I was watching an interview with Tila Tequila and she goes on about how taking it abled her to drink. I am a social drinker, but of course me being an Asian, I have hard time drinking.
Out of all types of alcohol, Tequila makes my face throb and turns my face & body into tomato red. After having a frozen margarita, my guy is like OMIGOD, so shocked.
One time Henekin(spellling?) gave me hives all around my chest/neck area. Same thing happened to me when I ate a pastrami sandwich. I wonder what the connection is.
I can deal with the ugly beet red, flushed look with watery eyes and even rashes and hives, but
OH MAN OH MAN! I get this throbbing headache within an hour of drinking. Usually drinking tons of water and popping Advil help, but it sucks that everyone else are having FUN.
So I ran to CVS and bought ZANTAC. By the way, it's expan$ive!!! I wonder Pepcid is better.
What y'all think?
