One of my wife’s main purposes in coming to Iceland is to bathe in the rich, blue mineral baths. A couple of days ago, we spent a few hours at Myvatn Nature Baths (Jardbodin vid Myvatn), which was fun. The water is an unreal glowing blue! (shot with Phantom 2 and Ricoh GR camera).

What a difference 20 feet makes! On the left is a shot of Grjótagjá (Game of Thrones shooting location in Iceland) I took with my Sony A7R (see original post). I switched between 21mm and 35mm lenses, but couldn’t get a picture that made the cracked lava tube look dramatic. Using the Phantom 2 with Ricoh ...

This morning, we went to find Grjótagjá, a small lava cave in Iceland with a geothermal spring inside. I later learned that this cave was the location of Jon Snow and Ygritte’s hookup in Game of Thrones. The cave is accessible from two holes in the old lava tube and is fun to check out, but ...

I did a few flights in Iceland today, which was a lot of fun—the country is so beautiful! I’m not really here on an aerial-imaging trip, but my wife has been patient enough to let me do a flight here and then. She is the best. 🙂 We are in Borgarnes tonight, which sits on ...

I’m all packed up for a trip to Iceland! My wife said I could bring one drone, but I’m sneaking a second one on the trip. I have a Phantom 2 w/Zenmuse H3-3D gimbal and Gopro Hero 3+ Black w/Ragecams 5.4mm lens mod in a Go Professional rolling hard case, and a Phantom 2 w/Ricoh ...

I love using large sensors in the air. I drove to Palomar Observatory today and sent the Phantom 2 Ricoh GR up for a few pictures (nowhere near the structures). Last year, I read Richard Preston’s First Light: The Search for the Edge of the Universe, which made visiting the observatory all the more special. The modified Phantom ...

Cannibal Rock: This might just look like an aerial view of an underwater rock, but experienced SCUBA divers will find the alternative viewpoint to be fascinating. Located in Horseshoe Bay (Nusa Kode) just off of Rinca Island in Komodo National Park, this dive site is called Cannibal Rock. It is one of the best dives ...

Pura Tanah Lot is another one of the seven sea temples in Bali, Indonesia, and is located in Tabanan. Although the area around Tanah Lot is extremely touristy, only Balinese people can go into the temple itself. We arrived early in the morning to avoid the crowds. Shot with DJI Phantom 2 quadcopter, Ricoh GR ...

Pura Luhur Uluwatu is a spectacular Balinese sea temple in Bali, Indonesia. The temple sits on a sheer cliff, and guards Bali from evil spirits from the south-west. There is no way to see this temple from the “front” except by aerial vehicle. Shot with DJI Phantom 2 quadcopter, Ricoh GR APS-C camera, and Boscam FPV ...
