I want to know if anyone has any tips about eating and drinking?
I find that if i take zantac on an empty stomach and then wait an hour and then have around 6 beers and then have something light to eat (continually drinking) and then take another zantac after my meal, the redness is reduced and stays pretty reduced. But if i want to go out with mates or a girl for a meal and quite drink i have to decline the drink because i dont want to always have a minimum of 6 beers before a meal (eg. I might have to drive) .
does anyone have any suggestions on what foods are ok or what drinks are ok? or anything that may work? anything would be helpful!
this is awful!
just wondering if anyone has tried somac? its a 'proton pump inhibitor' and contains pantoprazole? does this work?
Hey all,
I usually take zantac on an empty stomach (usually avoid eating 2 and half to 3 hours before hand) and try to avoid eating while im drinking because when i eat even small amounts i find that when the food is digested it destroys the affect of the antacid and in a few minutes i turn red again and feel quite hot and agitated! i think this seems to be a very common thing!
does anyone know any foods that are better to eat or strategies that can be done so this doesn’t happen? like maybe take a tablet and then another when eating?! I dunno, just seeing if anyone can help!
Also, does anyone still get the flushing or wake up with a very rosie face the next day after a big night out even if they have taken antacids before drinking the night before? i find alot of the time my face gets really red appearing so sun burnt the day after?!
thanks so much!
and nohxtk1, is there actually a drug getting manufactured?

Hi there,
firstly, im actually australian, not of asian decent at all. i am rosie in complection naturally and i get similar flushing reactions as i do with alcohol just generally. i discovered this forum a while ago and use to get very red, hot and anxious when i drink. i tried zantac and it worked really well. i was under the impression however that your stomach has to be empty in order for the antacids to neutralise the stomach acids (or whatever they actually do). i usually make sure i havent eaten any food 2 - 3 hours before hand, then take 1 or 1 1/2 45min - 1 hour before i start drinking. i find this works pretty well but my questions are:
are actually taken these antacids regulary really harmfull to your body or does your body become use to them?
also can you grow out of this phase of turning red when consuming aclcohol when your body further developes or you get older?
has anyone used rosacea or anxiety medication to counteract flushing due to alcohol?
hopefully you can all help!
yeah thanks for your advice steph. moderation is probably the best move but i didnt know if taking an antacid tablet for people with asian flush to reduce flushing was like taking a asthma medication for a person with asstma.. if you know what i mean?!
i have tried to sort of research the'asian flush' quite a bit an i understand it might be due to our bodies not breaking down the alcohol efficiently.
but could facial flushing be due to an allergic reaction to sulphites and preservitives in wine and beer etc rather than the alcohol itself?
i was just wondering if anyone knew anything about that, and if they have tried maybe organic wine etc an noticed reduced flushing?
just a thought..
hey guys,
this site is a savour. thank you so much for everyones post. im an aussie and i find that taking 1 zantac tablet an hour before my first drink on an empty stomach significantly reduced facial flushing.
but.. i do have a question. is actually taking an antacid tablet on a reqular basis (4 - 5 times a week) to reduce facial flushing actually harmful to your body or stomach???
i hope someone can help!
cheers.
