Sorry, Aldous, I should've researched fomepizole a little bit more.
Studies have found oral 4-MP to be as effective as the IV infusion. (Oral administration of fomepizole produces similar blood levels as identical intravenous dose; Marraffa et al 2008). I'm just not sure if the compound was prepared in some way to make it safer/more bioavailable.
According to Patent US20080021083 A1 (the supposed Raptor Pharma patent; use Google Patent to search),
"4-Methylpyrazole (4-MP, also known as fomepizole) is commercially available from chemical suppliers, including, for example, Sigma Aldrich (St. Louis, Mo.), and can also be synthesized easily in commercially viable quantities of pharmaceutical grade.
4-MP can be administered alone or in combination with other substances or active agents. In some embodiments, a composition comprising 4-MP and other ingredients, as described below, is administered.
4-MP can be administered according to any technique known to those of skill in the art. In certain embodiments, 4-MP can be delivered transdermally. In preferable embodiments, the subject can self-administer 4-MP to himself or herself. In preferable embodiments, 4-MP can be administered orally. When orally administered, 4-MP can be in a solid form, for example, as in a powder, tablet, capsule and the like, or in a liquid form."
The patent doesn't specify if the 4-MP has been cut with something else, but it doesn't seem like it is. It also recommends taking 1 mg/kg to 4 mg/kg about an hour before alcohol consumption. Since I weigh about 155 lbs or 70 kg, I would take about 140 mg 4-MP, assuming roughly 2 mg/kg.
I guess one can take a small scoop of 4-MP safely, unless this patent is completely wrong or hasn't been tested. I still wouldn't recommend trying it, but a doctor or scientist would definitely be able to give us some good advice on this.
Thanks for bringing this compound to light again. I would discourage buying the compound and trying it for yourself, unless a medical professional, such as your wife, gives you the OK, but I think our cure is waiting right around the corner.
Thanks, and good luck!!
