does anyone still feel hot when they drink on it?

Yes.  If you do the Pepcid AC method properly, you will still feel the facial heat, but no redness.  Only a very slight pink hue around the eyes and cheek (esp. if you have a chubby face with a lot of fat) and sometimes a slight glossiness and mild red-eyes.  Use a little Visine AC after your first drink and no one will even notice.

I am new to the boards and just want to see if anyone had the same problems as me.  I took Pepcid AC a ton in college.  I went out about 3 nights a week and took it every one of those days.  After a while I noticed that Pepcid AC stopped working as well.  I was pretty consistent about it too, always taking it 45 minutes before drinking too.  I decided to double the dosage whenever I went out and that started working again.  A few weeks later though that dosage stopped working as well.  I even tried 3 or 4 pills and they did nothing.  I also noticed that if I forgot to take Pepcid before drinking, my tolerance would be cut in half and I would get sick much much easier.  Needless to say, I have since stopped taking Pepcid AC altogether as I was beginning to get worried about my health.  I was taking extra-strength Pepcid and taking 4 of those at one time simply can't be good for you.  At about this time too, I started becoming lactose intolerant.  I used to be fine drinking glasses and glasses of milk but now I could no longer.  I would get stomach and intestinal pains on top of other things.  I asked my really intelligent med school buddy if there could be a connection and he said it was a possibility.

I am basically asking two questions:

1.  Can habitually taking Pepcid AC before drinking make your body dependent on Pepcid AC to process alcohol?

2.  Can taking too much Pepcid AC make you lactose intolerant?

FYI my solution now has been to pre-game earlier as I find that after an hour or so my flush will be reduced enough to the point where I am willing to go out.

Physically you're too weak.  You need to quit alcohol.

Hello everyone,

first of all, I'd like to say I feel very relieved to have found this small community. Asian Flush is a real burden in social circumstances, so I hope we will find a way to get rid of it sometimes soon.

I am a white "causasian" with blond hair, and  yet suffering from AF. Actually my mother is vietnamese, but no-one could tell at first sight. This makes it worse I think, because people are not used to see "white people" flushing so much when drinking.

I started getting drunk with friends at the age of 16, and always experienced the flushing. After one single drink my face and neck will turn bright red, my eyes will be sleepy, I feel warm and my heart beats fast. In the past I didn't really care about it and continued drinking at least once a week. But now that I grew old, it is getting more and more difficult to accept it.

After some research on the internet, I have tried many of the "tricks" mentioned in this forum. My conclusion is that some of them DO WORK, but not are not 100% effective (residual redness), and do not ALWAYS work. Here are the few things that are true to me :
- drinking slowly is very important
- eating several hours before the first drink, or not eating at all
- taking a dump before drinking (im serious!)
- rather drinking vodka and energy drinks (redbull contains niacin!)
- taking zantac 1-2 hours before drinking
- avoid sitting too long or remain too passive
- avoid crowded space
- taking aspirin
- using skincare cream
- have a long sleep the night before

- drinking slowly is very important -- SORT OF.  BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO BABY YOUR DRINKS ALL NITE, JUST MAYBE THE FIRST DRINK.
- eating several hours before the first drink, or not eating at all --  EXCELLENT ADVICE. SEE MY POST HERE REGARDING EATING echeng.com/asianblush/viewtopic.php?id=29
- taking a dump before drinking (im serious!) -- ALWAYS GOOD TO TAKE A DUMP!
- rather drinking vodka and energy drinks (redbull contains niacin!) - YES.  DRINK A QUALITY VODKA LIKE GREY GOOSE WITH RED BULL. AVOID BEER!
- taking zantac 1-2 hours before drinking --  DOES ZANTAC WORK AFTER 2 HOURS???  PEPCID AC MAX WORKS BEST AFTER 40-45 MINUTES.  WHAT ARE THE OPTIMAL CONDITIONS FOR TAKING ZANTAC?
- avoid sitting too long or remain too passive - YES.  EXCELLENT ADVICE.
- avoid crowded space - IRRELEVANT.  MAYBE YOU'RE JUST BEING SOCIALLY NERVOUS ABOUT ANY POTENTIAL FLUSH?
- taking aspirin -- NOT SURE.  I TAKE 2 ADVIL WITH PEPCID AND IT HAS NO EFFECT, POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE.
- using skincare cream -- HIGHLY DUBIOUS.
- have a long sleep the night before -- CAN'T ARGUE WITH A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP, BUT I'VE HAD GOOD RESULTS WITH LITTLE REST AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, LITTLE FOOD.

Hi I've been taking pepcid ac 40mg for about 5 years now ,generally one 40mg tablet on a saturday night before drinking. I've noticed that 30 min after taking the tablet, when its absorbed and I've only had one 355ml beer,it seems to block/slowen my memory ability, almost like memory loss, for example you cant remember some peoples names as well relative to when your not taking pepcid. This occurs almost immediately when u are not even drunk yet. However by the next day or day after your memory returns to normal. So my question is does anyone else experience something similar memory loss like side effects?

Yeah right, and Pepcid also causes Alzheimers, Lou Gehrigs Disease, Herpes, mono, and Lyme disease too.  Reading this thread makes me realize why white people think Asians are so physically weak.  Pathetic.

I've been taking Pecid AC Max (no generics!) for over 8 years and have NEVER had ANY side effects.  Here's my formula:

I'm a 5'-10" male, 175lbs and I take 5 Pepcid AC Max with a tall glass of water 40-50 minutes before drinking, and on a relatively empty stomach.  Don't eat at least 2 hours before taking Pepcid and eat light throughout the day.  I know that sounds counter-intuitive (no food to absorb the alcohol?) but trust me on this.

It's also best move around during the day before going out drinking for the night - for some reason it effects your metabolism and enhances the properties of Pepcid (don't sit on the couch all day gorging yourself on pizza as it's effectiveness will be GREATLY reduced and sometimes eliminated altogether).   If you're going on a dinner date, company outing etc., start drinking first at the 40 minute mark (Grey Goose and Red Bull works the best for me) and then eat lightly, slowly and sparingly as you drink.  It's best to get one drink in before you start eating and I would avoid beer at all costs.

On a side note, I'm willing to bet that it's purely psychological for 90% of those who claim "side-effects" (i.e.  too easy to get drunk, stomach issues etc).  Baloney.  I've been doing this for years and given advice to my friends for years and never heard any problems.   If you're a health nut and worried about any potential long-term consequences, it's best not to drink at all!!.... but alas, that simply isn't a realistic option for socially engaged asians - particularly those of us who live in the West.
