Who says brushless gimbals need to be attached to multirotor aircraft?

I took a Rotorpixel HERO3 brushless gimbal and adapted it into a handheld GoPro stabilization system by adding an Opteka X-Grip, 2S LiPo battery, 4 x AA battery housing, and servo tester. Freefly Systems made news at NAB this year by announcing the MōVI, a high-end, stabilized camera platform with full, 3-axis stabilization and remote control. For just a few hundred dollars, amateur movie makers can cobble together a stabilization system of their own for a smaller camera like a GoPro. I can imagine a skater taking this around and getting fantastic, stable footage.

The version I put together uses a servo tester to control pitch from the handle itself, but for under $30, you can get a 4-channel radio and receiver, and control both pitch and roll remotely. You’d also probably want to add an FPV system to the mix so your remote cinematographer can really do his/her job.

I haven’t tested this system in the field, yet, but it looks promising. 🙂
