I’ve been enjoying shooting raw DNG with the DJI Phantom 2 Vision (beta, unavailable to the public). The resulting files have a ton of detail in them. They also show quite a bit of noise, but after noise removal in Adobe Lightroom, they look good for images image captured by a tiny sensor.
Many shots from the air, especially shots of trees and greenery, are difficult to compress and fall apart when shot in JPG and viewed at 100%. Both the GoPro HERO 3 and Phantom 2 Vision’s JPG images have problems with a lot of detail, but the problem isn’t the camera—it’s the compression.
Of course, a DNG from a small-sensor camera won’t compete well against a JPG shot using a large-sensor camera, but the Vision travels perfectly in a small case that fits in overhead bin space on airplanes.
