I spent the last 2 weeks diving the southern part of Komodo, Indonesia, leading an underwater photography expedition for Wetpixel. We spent quite a bit of time in Horseshoe Bay photographing marine life at famous dive sites like Cannibal Rock, but whenever the wind died down, I flew my modified DJI Phantom 2 and took still images from the air. Most of my aerial photography time was spent using the Ricoh GR, but I attached a GoPro HERO3+ Black (no gimbal) and took a few stills, as well. The Ricoh’s 28mm-equivalent lens has a more-cinematic feel to it, but the GoPro’s super-wide fisheye lens is hard to beat when it comes to capturing breathtaking aerials that make us feel like tiny terrestrial inhabitants.
