Another Bayfront morning
ArticlesI spent the first few hours of my birthday morning flying at Bayfront with Dave Merrill (and Amy and their son), Jimmie Fulton, Steve Doll, Samaruddin Stewart, and others. It was a lovely morning—perfect for hanging out in the rolling hills near the bay.
The ADS 400-Q running OpenPilot Revolution is flying well now, but I realize that what I want in an FPV ship is something reliable (long range, long battery life) that has a gimbal. A 400-sized frame is too small for proper payload, and too large to be a sport flyer. It may be time to get into either a TBS Discovery or a QAV540G.
I also did a first proper test of the DJI Phantom 2 Vision. The built-in telemetry and insane battery life (~25 min) was impressive. I flew to 400 feet and hovered (GPS hold) at around 800’ away from us, with no problems. There was another group of flyers at the site flying big planes, and we took turns spying on each other. Each time one of the groups did a pass on the other group, all of us chuckled and giggled in what can only be described as a highly-specialized form of RC FPV humor.
