hi, Caroline! Soft coral is soft to the touch, except for tips, which can be sharp. But responsible divers try not to touch things unless they absolutely cannot resist. :)

Aloha & Bula Eric! The Maui gang is all back home, and back in our own waters! Your photos are FANTASTIC - much better than any of us got on our shark dive the following day! Let us know when you're back in Kihei or on one of the neighbor islands and we'll arrange a little island hospitality! Bula to James & Paul too.

Bula my partner and I are visiting Fiji for a week at the end of August. I am particularly keen in doing a shark dive or two in the Beqa lagoon. I read an article in a dive magazine 6 months ago re the Aqua-Trek operation which persuaded me to book a holiday in Fiji. I was interested in your report thatAqua Trek split into two factions in May. I have booked a shark encounter dive with one of the operatives but I was wondering if you could tell me who I should contact to try and book a dive with sharks being fed. Any assistance gratefully received.

hey dude!...ya so u i can see u love my island home...ya i live in pacific harbour born & bred...ya man i am totaly scared to go diving but i know its very beautiful i always just stay on the boat i hate sharks..i will face my fear oneday....c ya back in fiji 1day

Thanks for Vatu-i-ra shots - I was lucky enough to make several trips to the island in early 80s when a teenager living in Fiji. Main reason for trip was banding birds, but lots of snorkelling (and night-time spear fishing - is that un-pc now?) Turtles, sharks, huge morays...

Still remember it as possibly my favourite spot in the world - sitting on the small hill watching the gannets float past at eye level.
