WETPIXEL BAHAMAS SHARK EXPEDITION 2005: SHARK WRANGLING

Shark Wrangling

Most shark expeditions include what we call, "shark wrangling," where a fish head is tied to a line and thrown out to encourage sharks to swim close to the boat. The goal is *not* to feed the shark, but rather to use bait to get sharks close enough to be observed and photographed.

Tiger sharks were the best "players," frequently ending up completely on the boat's swim step. Adventurous photographers can stand on the swim step with a camera and photograph sharks as they come in on the line. This is one of my favorite things to do while out there. :)

Also for the first time, I shot extreme wide-angle (full-frame fisheye) from the swim step. My favorite wrangling photograph shot on this trip has the sun just kissing the horizon in the background. :)
