Posted at 01:20 AM PST: "Vienna Teng on Letterman"
You know what? Even *I* was nervous when she showed up on stage. It must have been nerve-wracking to be on the same show as Simon Cowell of American Idol, who spent his entire interview talking about talentless musicians. But Vienna performed marvelously. I can't wait to see where she goes from here! I have some photos that I snapped of my TV, below."Our next guest is a talented singer/song-writer from the Bay Area who is making her television debut with us tonight. This is her CD entitled 'Waking Hour.' I've heard the entire CD and there's not a dud on this. You get your money's worth here, ladies and gentlemen." - David Letterman
After I updated this entry, Greymatter decided to delete its gm-entrylist.cgi file (the one that tracks all of the entries in this journal), so I had to dig it up out of yesterday's backup. Thank God for chron jobs! :) Actually, I just discovered it's because my host won't let me write over existing files in the cgi-bin/ directory. Bizarre.

Although I saw Vienna Teng in concert almost a week ago in SF, I am still in the bliss that is her ethereal music, poetry, and piano melodies. Vienna is the avant garde music talent of the century. She is one of the most brilliant, fascinating, and poetic people I've seen and heard - and whose music I now absolutely adore. What also amazes me is her divine array of talent: Vienna studied as a premedical student at Stanford for two years before switching to a CS major, after which she became a developer for Cisco and now has signed onto an independent record label to become a professional musician. Musically, Vienna is the epitomy of what a true artist should be: a writer, composer, and singer who can play her own instrument while instilling meaning into lyrics with natural grace and fluency. In addition to the pristine vocals and music, every song on her CD is lush with poetry scintillating with such visceral meaning that almost effects a rebirth in you to yearn for only music like hers. A friend who heard her the other day instantly described her as a mix of Sarah Mclachlan and Enya. I'm not exactly sure if that simple characterization befits Vienna, but if you continue to browse the Internet for more information and reviews on this amazing artist, I bet you will see that she is in a league of her own. Vienna is definitely one of the greatest artists I've come across in my life, and I urge everyone to explore her music. She is musician, singer, poet, and utter genius entwined as one. Be sure to check out Vienna in concert - especially while she's still playing in smaller venues - because you will get to experience her music in its immaculate form, woven to life on the piano as it was once beautifully conceived.

I heard Vienna for the first time the other day on Radio Paradise (streaming on my computer, against regs) and just yesterday bought the only copy of "Waking Hour" at Borders. LOVE the whole CD, and hope she'll make it to Tallahassee one day soon.
I had the pleasure of hearing Vienna sing for the first time on Letterman. What a phenomenon! She has the voice of an angel. I ordered "Waking Hour" the following day & just received it. Dave is right...absolutely No Duds. Can't wait to see her perform in Nashville in April

Hey echeng, just wanted to throw my vote in for moveabletype. The program is solid, the community support impressive, and the authors incredible. I just checked the page about the upcoming MT 2.6 and it looks like they have some comments functionality you might be interested in using :) Hope to see you back blogging again soon... I miss my photo phix!

I think this will be showing on cable here in the UK soon, so will have to check that out. I don't think we can get her CD in local stores yet. I give em a week ^_^
hi eric -- hope you are well. looking at your journal, it seems like your life is exciting! :) anyway, i thought you might have caps up so i wanted to come by and check. i was so proud when i heard she'd be on the show that i emailed about 50 friends. i also beamed and clapped afterward, even though my tv sucks and gave me black and white fuzzy reception. i can't believe she's #8 on amazon right now. the cd looks like it's on backorder; i just got my roommate to buy a copy and it won't get here until MARCH! bich ngoc

Wow! I didn't have TV reception last night and had to listen to Letterman on the radio. Thanks for always being so thorough, Eric!
Go Vienna! I was so psyched and nervous, but she pulled through.
She performed great....as always!!!
