Posted at 03:35 PM PST: "Vienna Teng / RBJ"
To the folks who came over tonight: please leave me a comment here and post a link to any entries you may have written about the gathering!Vienna Teng was gracious enough to come over this evening to sing for a Rice Bowl Journals gathering at my house. RBJ members (and guests) from all over the SF Bay Area (and from Houston and L.A.!) convened to finally meet each other in person after having been part of a close-knit community for more than a year. Vienna sang beautifully, and the other Eric set up his fancy audio equipment to capture it all. I'm sorry I wasn't effective at setting up an interesting webcam for those of you who tried to follow it from elsewhere. I was, like... busy and stuff. ;) [buy her cd from amazon!] In the morning, Ben, Heidi, Joel and I read string quartets for a couple of hours, which was a nice treat because I hadn't played chamber music in a long time. I'm getting rusty. :( OK. I really must sleep now. Let this entry be a collaborative effort. Leave comments about your experience this evening. :) Here are two 1024x683 versions of the group photo we took: [photo 1 - 257.6Kb] [photo 2 - 253.4Kb] Other coverage: [Dardy] [Dardy 2] [Cat] [Arnold] [Raven and Mona] [Raymond] [Pjammer] [Christine] [Andrey] More photos below (of course!):

Hey people, just posted up my journal entry about last weekend, better late than never! http://www.heychristine.com/journals/02_1219.html
Wait??? where were your bengal cats!!! I totally forgot to ask about them.
hmm... though i doubt anyone cares at this point in time, here's a hidden post about saturday nite. =)
Cool pair of Vienna photos by Adam...somewhat reminiscent of that Newman portrait of Stravinsky...
hats off to u eric. i think u did a spectacular job. and great attention to detail, speakers in all the right places etc. making it sound like vienna's singing right beside u, and not too overwhelming, sweet! belated happy birthday, dude!
ehhe frist off. Sorry Raven. I am bad with place. LO> Eric thank you so much for hosting the concert. You made it all happen. You brought a whole bunch of people together and we can't thank you enough.
whoa! that is totally awesome... an intimate Vienna Teng concert and RBJ get-together all rolled into one! :) love the photos! kudos to Eric for putting it together and hosting it at his wonderful home. hey, hapPy belated Birthday, Eric! :)
thanks so much for putting together the show! i had a great time seeing vienna and meeting everyone. even though the driving was terrible at times, it was definitely worth all of my mileage to drive up. :) also, fab photos!! bich ngoc cao
Thanks for hosting this event at your house Eric. It was great to get an opportunity to hear music for the first time from someone so talented.
To Eric, thanks again for opening your home to all of us, very generous of you and as always it was great to see you again (and all the other folks I knew from before too!). To Vienna, an amazing performance and fun presentation as well, I think Raven's entry about it said it all. It was wonderful, looking forward to hearing (and seeing) more of you. =) To all the folks from RBJs I met, nice to meet you! To all the folks from RBJs I didn't get to meet, hopefully next time! I'll add my journal link here once it's posted!
Eric, it was a fantastic pleasure and privilege. Thank you thank you! Thank you Vienna for opening your heart to us. And I truly enjoyed meeting such a fascinating mix of people, like Bich Ngoc, Melissa Rapp, etc. Keep in touch, everyone!
oh my! happy birthday eric!
Eric, I just have to thank you again for opening up your home to all of us and getting this organized with Vienna. It was a pleasure meeting everyone and I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone better once Mona and I make the big move to the bay area next year. Houston, LOL... dang it Chris! Chris kept saying we were from Houston all night and I guess it stuck! Mona flew in from our home in Dallas, TX and I opted not to come home but rather fly in from where I'm working in Seattle, WA for the weekend. The permanent link to the entry I wrote about the evening is here or you can simply go to my journal to see it as well. The first link loads without frames so you can't navigate, the second one loads everything.
thanks to vienna for the excellent show and thanks to eric for hosting it! and, of course, it was great to meet everyone in person, and not just reading about you online! i'm trying really hard not to blog about the night because i actually flaked on another holiday party to come to this... shhh! maybe i'll hide an easter egg blog in a bit, but i'll let you guys know if i do. happy holidays!
Thanks Eric for being such a great host for this event, and to Vienna for playing for us :) I had a great time!
Great shots and it looked like a good time! Kudos to you for hosting the gig Eric!
Your house is soooooo NICE!!! ...and I'm glad everything turned out so well. =D Wish I was there.
hey eric, do you have links to all of the people who came?
Thanks for coming, everybody! It was so cool to meet all of you. Couldn't have thought of a better way to celebrate being not-sick again. :^)
Awesome photos. :) Will post more about it after I get some damn sleep ... :P And on the topic that vienna brought up during the dinner ... Why Nice Guys Finish Last would be a bit of a fun read, perhaps. Thanks again to our gracious host Eric for hosting the event! And happy birthday, you crazy foo! :D
Oh wow, great photos of everyone there :) Great to see such a large gathering of the RBJ community. Well done on that Eric :)
Just got home, and luckily the weather was not bad on the drive back. :) I think we were all blown away by Vienna's performance... Just seeing it in person was everything I thought it was going to be. I even bought the CD and got it PERSONALLY autographed. =p And the bonus was meeting all of the other RBJers too and sharing this time with them.. :) Overall, it was awesome. Thanks again for opening up your house to us Eric!
