I have the same problem. I created an automater executable for the following command: killall -9 Dock

I just put in my app folder but you can leave it in the dock. Simple fix for when this happens (one click instead of navigating to the Activity Monitor). Hopefully 10.6.3 will take care of this….

I’m sort of relieved someone else had this problem. I’m able to reliably reproduce the behavior by plugging in my iPhone to launch iTunes in its default space. The forced switch to iTunes’ space causes Dock to somehow lockout the keyboard. I used a symbolic link to the command instead of Automater to accomplish the same as Erik and Mak.

I've had the keyboard stop working when I did a fast-user-switch. I'll have to try this approach the next time that happens, just in case the causes are similar. (My workaround has been to use the mouse and go to the upper right-hand corner of the screen and choose Login Window.)
