A couple of times a year, I feel the urge to do a search for myself on the internets. I just did a vanity search for “Eric Cheng” on teh Google, and I discovered that I have almost edged out the final rogue entry on the first page!

9 of the first 10 results and 17 of the first 20 are my sites or are about me. Yee-haw. Also notice that Ryan has taken an AdWords ad out for my name. Very clever.
UPDATE July 5, 2008
From my parents’ place in San Diego, a vanity search today yielded 100% of the top 10. :)

//end ego
Man. I’ve been looking (unsuccessfully) for an end ego tag for years…

I’m glad I could help you out, Norm. Now, if you would only get an RSS feed in your photo journal, I’d be really happy! I’d like to point out that the look you’re using for that page was from my /output page — from 1999!! ;)
Eric, if vanity searches is your goal, this is a bd strategy. A much better way is to change your name to something unique. Vanity searches for is almost all about me. =)
I got a completely different set of results with your link today.
4 rogue entries on the front page.
Actually, it’s more impressive to fill up the Google results with a more common name. Changing your name to something like Jauder is cheating ;) (Plus if Eric changed his name to Jauder, you’d end up on page 39 of results, hehe)
I dunno, Dave. Jauder may be one of the few people signed up for more web services than I. ;)
Thanks for pointing that out, Eric. I’ve been meaning to change that for a long time… So, what of yours should we copy now? :)
