Another photographer has advised me to get a gradient(?) filter for outdoors landscape shots. What do you think about that, and how does that compare with getting a polarizer?

Nice article with pretty good examples pics. And i agree - one can do a lot to get more out of images with photoshop, but using a polarizer as filter will give other/better results.

Sophia – an option: you can get a polarizer that matches your largest filter size and buy step-up rings to use with the other lenses.

If I have 3 different lens with 3 different filter size, should I get 3 polarizer in different size or should I just get 1 polarizer and use it with the 3 lens? Thanks!

When i shot film and a NIkon 20mm i got vignetting with a tamron or tiffen CP, i then went to a nikon polarizer and no more vignetting, it is actually wider than the lens itself by quite a bit. A lot more pricey though… something you might want to look into

One of the last things (yeah, right) that I need to buy is a polarizer. Which brand and make do you use? Hoya or B+W?

Wow. I just asked my wife to buy me a polarizing filter for my Bonaire trip, then I clicked to your article an hour later. I guess I read your mind and made the right choice. I’m hoping to get some land shots this time – my camera flooded the last time I went to Bonaire so we didn’t get anything on land.
