The Taiwanese presidential election is tomorrow, and my parents and their friends are rallying for the DPP. I am no expert in politics in Taiwan, but it seems like a mess.
Our close family friend, Judy Lin Linton, has written something about the KMT on her website. It’s in Mandarin, but at the bottom of the page is an English translation.
I have blurry memories of first meeting Judy when she fled to the States. My mom told me the details of her family tragedy, but I have a hard time imagining the forgiveness she must have in her heart that enables her not to hate the organization that jailed her father and murdered her sisters and grandmother.
Yeah, to call it a mess would be one of the understatements of the year. =) My parents went back to Taiwan to specifically vote for the DPP. People here complaining about the liberal bias of the US media should take a look at the KMT-controlled media there to see what real bias looks like. And I find it amusing that the KMT is running on an anti-corruption platform when they’re the ones who wrote, edited and revised the book on corruption in Taiwan politics. Ah, good times. =p
Eric, The KMT came and stole my grandfather’s business and houses right after they came to Taiwan. My grandpa was very successful and wealthy but the KMT tortured him and said he was a communist. At the end, he was forced to leave Taiwan and he never went back to Taiwan. The Taiwanese government didn’t even pay him a penny for his losses. It really sucks.
