Calls from 562-228-7160 about vehicle warranty

I keep getting calls from 562-228-7160 to my mobile phone telling my my vehicle warranty has expired. I stayed on the line to talk to an operator, and he hung up on me when I told him I wanted to be taken off their list. If you call back, the number goes nowhere. A Google search for the number shows that others have had the same issue from the same number.

Anyone have more information? I’ve filed a complaint with the FCC, which I hope will have some effect (and you should, too, if they have called you). Those bastards.

UPDATE: Drew has a great plan. Let’s flood their toll-free number with calls and run up their bill:

Now here’s where we get them back. Lets run up their phone bills. 888 numbers are free for us–not for them. Let’s make this the Million Man Message!!! Everyone - call this number: 888-858-8448. Don’t just call it once, call it 10 times. Call it 10 times for each call you get from them. They’ll get the picture.

The company answers as “Great Atlantic Warranty.” Be sure to dial *67 before your call to block outgoing Caller ID! Maybe use a fax machine on auto-retry…

Don’t think I’ve gotten that one before. I usually get the Mexican telemarketers on my cell phone. :\

Odd…. I got that same call to my cellphone as well.

This one isn’t me, I swear! In any case, one good trick to lessen the annoyance of this kind of thing is to set a special ring (silent) for that number.

I’ve been getting these same calls. I say we rise up and strike back!!! My latest conversation involved me talking with a nice girl name “Terry”. Apparently Terry is a new hire, and not very good at giving the run-around yet. Since I’ve had a few practice runs with these people, I tried a new tactic…kindness. I asked for a number at which they can be reached. I was given a customer service number. An 888 number. Now here’s where we get them back. Lets run up their phone bills. 888 numbers are free for us…not for them. Let’s make this the Million Man Message!!! Everyone - call this number: 888-858-8448. Don’t just call it once, call it 10 times. Call it 10 times for each call you get from them. They’ll get the picture. Either that or they’ll go out of business from high phone bills. Just call it then pretend you don’t speak English. Ask if their refrigerator is running, or if they have “Prince Albert” in a can. The longer you keep them on the phone, the higher THEIR bill. Let’s put these jerks out of business!!!!

GOGOGO, im tired of getting 3 calls a day from these fools, anyone know a program that repeatedly calls people? I’d run it on theie number for a year straight if I could!

Guys, you’re not gonna run them out of business by spamming them.

Be smart, fill out this form : https://esupport.fcc.gov/form1088/

If we get enough people to fill this out, the calls will stop… What they’re doing is illegal. And the FCC will stop them.

Thanks, Remy. First thing I did was file a complaint with the FCC, and I hope everyone else will, too.

as an aside — I don’t believe that *67 works on toll-free numbers. *67 prevents Caller ID from seeing your number, but 800- (etc.) numbers use something called Automatic Number Identification and *67 doesn’t affect that. I learned the hard way once; it was 10 years ago so maybe things have changed, but I doubt it.

not that I think calling them openly is a bad idea.

legitimate company my ass! I’ve been getting these calls on all my phones for months, they won’t take me off their lists and call my cell during the day costing me minutes! They are abusive, they try to scam people out of their money, and THEY NEED TO BE STOPPED. I like this idea of flooding them with a bunch of toll-free calls at their expense, lets do this!!! 1. Their number is 888-898-8778, which they will change once this campaign starts taking effect… SO lets post any new numbers they might have, also if they call again….see if you can get their toll-free number and post it 2. ‘Skype OUT’ lets you call toll-free number all day long for no charge. So call them, mute them (or fuck with them), wait till they hang up, and repeat. Its fun. 3. I like scripting, here is an applescript that calls them, waits till they hang up, then calls them again. Put it on a bunch of macs, let it run, its fun:

repeat tell application “Skype” send command “CALL +18888988778″ script name “My Other Script” end tell end repeat

does anyone know an easy way to script skype on a PC?

Just stumbled across this in my quest to try to get great atlantic warranty shut down. They screwed my mom out of almost $1300 dollars. I have been calling them almost every hour on the hour for the last month. The 888-858-8448 number is just an answering service and has nothing to do with the a**holes that cold call. But still, everyone should do the “million man message” and run their bill sky high! Anyone and everyone who has even gotten one phone call from them should visit the FTC website and file a complaint… maybe after enough complaints they will get shut down!!
