My winning entry from last year was good enough to make the header of the new PDN/National Geographic Traveler’s World in Focus contest’s call for entries, but not good enough for them to give me anything other than a free subscription to PDN. Given that the contest costs $45/entry (for professionals), I may not have gotten my money’s worth. :)
that is pretty silly. I entered this year, but after I realized that it was $35 per photograph, I stopped uploading after only 1 image. Too costly, and not enough exposure in the event you have a winning entry. The Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year is much more prestigious, has an awesome display up for a year in London, and there is a traveling exhibit that goes all around the world. The Nature’s Best competition is also just as amazing.
I agree. I had been looking forward to going to the Nature’s Best awards ceremony at the Smithsonian, but the year I won they didn’t do anything! Too bad. This year, I only made the finals. :(
I run several photo contests with a friend, and we give out $50,000 in prizes. The entry fee is only $10/image, and the image gets published in dozens of magazines worldwide. But, of course, our name doesn’t stack up against PDN and NatGeo!
