Automatic geotagging with Downloader Pro

My favorite image downloading application, Downloader Pro, has recently been upgraded to support automated geotagging during the download of images from a media card or camera. Using standard track logs from a GPS device like the Sony GPS-CS1, it will merge GPS log data with images based on image date and time.
Although geotagging/geocoding applications exist on the Mac, there is nothing that blends a great downloader tool with automatic tagging. I remember this feeling well — the feeling of waiting hopelessly for functionality, I mean.
Eric,
So it works well? I’ve been debating about upgrading. I love Downloader Pro as it is able to populate IPTC data such as copyright while downloading files.
I’ve never tried it. But I know Chris Breeze didn’t like the way other programs did it (”destructively,” he said, regarding what it did to camera maker notes).
I use Photo Mechanic now. It does much of the same thing (’cept for GPS stuff).
Just hold your breath for Aperture 2.0 and your wish will come true !
I tried Lightroom recently which supposedly has this built in but it’s too darn slow.
Ideally, there would be a bluetooth GPS receiver that can log coordinates to my Treo.
Speaking of “Getaggingâ€: do you know locr? locr offers the ideal solution and makes geotagging exceptionally easy. locr uses GoogleMaps with detailed maps and high-resolution satellite images. To geotag your photos just enter address, let locr search, fine-tune the marker, accept position, and done! If you don’t know the exact address simply use drag&drop to set the position. For automatic geotagging you need a datalog GPS receiver in additon to your digital camera. The GPS receiver data and the digital camera data is then automatically linked together by the locr software. All information will be written into the EXIF header, and can then be used by other applications. Have a look at http://www.locr.com.
Locr.com - doesn’t work on Mac. Too bad.
