parallels desktop for mac os, now with coherence
I took a screenshot of my Mac Pro desktop a few minutes ago. See anything weird about it? That’s right: there are Windows apps running along side Mac apps! The most recent build of the new Parallels Desktop for Mac features Coherence, a feature that allows you to free Windows apps from the constraints of a virtual OS window. I also tested drag ‘n drop between windows (copying files), and it worked without any problems.
Before today, I was afraid to try Coherence because the product is still in beta, but for some reason was infused with a jolt of courage today while using Windows apps (for increased productivity — some of them are just better!).
Now I can run my two favorite Windows apps (BreezeBrowser and Beyond Compare 2) without having to work within a virtual OS window.
Eric,
That is one massive desktop, I like it!
Do you use the 30″ Apple Display? Do you prefer one giant screen to two smaller ones. I currently use 2-19″ (non-widescreen) LCDs, but I am considering either the 30″ or 2-23″ displays. Thoughts?
I prefer one giant screen. I also liked having 2 20″ displays, but the single 30″ is better for my needs. I bought a Dell because it was cheaper and had better specs (at the time — not sure what the state is now). The only problem is that Macs won’t sleep when connected to the USB hub and card reader on the Dell. So if you want to sleep your machine, you can’t use them.
I upgraded to the latest beta version but Coherency simply doesn’t work for me. It is weird. I hit the button, or the menu selection, and it doesn’t do anything.
I wrote to them to let them know.
