Do you plan to keep all your music on your ipod / portable music player? If so, I can understand the space dilemma. I gave up that idea after I got halfway through ripping my 800+ CDs into flac/ape. (Too many of my CDs have gotten scratched or lost for me to simply rip to MP3s.) Copying over your favorite hundred or so tracks-of-the-moment every now and then isn’t too bad. ;)

A Dell Axim with a few SD/mini-SD cards would fit that bill (minus the touchscreen option). The screen is huge, so it's great for watching movies as well as listening to music (including lossless formats), viewing pictures, etc. And with all the third party software out there (and the ability to create your own homebrew), you can make it do pretty much anything you want. :)

i stil think when it comes to smart phones you can't beat iMate.

their new SPL is quite sexy .. but more for joe blogs wanting to check emails while down the pub .. not for a power user.

I dont see the big problem here with it being cingular .. it's a GSM phone .. it's not hard to unlock them .. and we know they will be out and about on eBay as unlocked pretty soon.

The thing with this for me is just like you say .. the keyboard .. there needs to be an easy way of typing... oh and the price .. is WOW .. and the price we have seen is when you get a contract with cingular .. imagine how much it will be without a contract !

I agree actually: take out the phone part, drop the price, give us skype and and IM client. (or actually: just open the platform.) then what a killer video iPod!

Gen 1 is for business types with cash to blow on a pretty toy. Hopefully by gen. 2 or 3 they'll be able to make one more for the masses.
