Lynn Park, 3-legged cat

Below are photos of Lynn with her new 3-legged cat (found abandoned that day). When I met him, he was stinky from the anti-flea bath they’d just given him, but I think he has potential to be a good pet. He’s super mellow.

The only scary thing is that when he walks he sort of looks like the girl from The Ring.

I couldn’t help but notice your pics, and would like to ask you some questions if you don’t mind. My cat who is like my 2nd child, who i’m VERY attached to,just injured his leg,his x-ray showed nothing broken or torn,so their worried about nerve damage,a surgery for that runs between 8-10 thousand and I don’t have that kind of money,so an option I came across was removing the bad leg cause I will do everything and anything to keep my baby alive.I was just looking up some info and doing some research and came across your pic.Did you get your kitty when he had 4 legs or was he already a 3 legged cat? How does he get around? I have so many thoughts going thru my head right now,I just cannot imagine losing him over a leg, hopefully I did not bother you, just looking for help. Thanks.

I am going through the same thing right now Jen. My cat injured his arm so badly after jumping from a tall tree. The only options I got from 3 different vets are surgery or amputation. Surgery is only a 20% chance of saving his limb but he would have to endure a mechanical device for a year and a half and it will be very painful for him. Some people that did choose the surgery, ended up amputating the limb later because it hurt them to see their pet suffering. As difficult as it is, it looks like I’ll have a 3-legged cat soon… :(

If it comes right down to it, do NOT have your kitty put down. I just had to have my cat, Toby, amputated on his right forearm. Today is only the 2nd day and although he’s pretty slow to react, he has sat up and walked twice, and is eating and drinking water … just a tiny bit. It will take time, but he will adjust. My cat fell from somewhere, somehow, and broke his leg. Surgery just wouldn’t have worked. He had a cast for three days and it was rubbing on his “armpit” area when he walked, so I took him to the vet to see about getting some relief for his irritated skin. When they removed the cast they said that he leg had swelled severely, and that our only feesible option was to amputate. We were devastated, but we couldn’t have him put down. If you have to have your kitty’s leg amputated, it will cost around $900.

I just went through the SAME thing this past week. We tried putting a cast on my cat’s leg, and it was okay for 3 days. The top of the cast began to rub on his “armpit” area, and it was rubbing the skin raw. My cat tried to behave as his usual overactive self, and was walking around and was up and down on the furniture … with the cast on! So anyway, I took him to the vet to see if we could relieve the area that was rubbing and causing him pain, and when the vet removed the cast he found Toby’s leg to be swollen. The cast, apparently, wasn’t going to work, and surgery was just not a viable option, so we had to amputate. It was just one day ago, and although my cat is in pain and has no energy, he’s been up trying to walk twice today, and has eaten and drank water. I have no doubt that my “Toby the terror” will be back to his “normal” self quicker than I’d think. It will be okay.

My cat just broke his leg and is going to have to have it remover. It’s nice to see that a cat can still be ok with just 3.
