My first photo of the Aurora Borealis, Churchill, Canada

I know this is pretty much a crappy Aurora shot compared to what real Aurora photographers get, but I thought I’d share it anyway. It was my first experience with the Northern Lights, and I hope to go back sometime to do some proper photography.

Things going against us while we were out taking shots:

1. grumpy non-photographers inside the bus who didn’t see anything special about the evening
2. -37° C temperature and high winds made blowing snow feel like sand blasting
3. a real threat of polar bear attack

We only had about 15 minutes out there, but it left quite an impression on me.
