Reef reflection in bubble under a Sarcophyton sp. leather coral I’m really enjoying my time here in Papua New Guinea so far. We’re at Loloata at the moment and leave for Rabaul tomorrow to board the MV Febrina. The volcano in Rabaul is supposed to be spitting out smoke, so it should be interesting…

I’ve also posted a few more images from Loloata on Flickr. It’s quite a feat to post images from here, so I hope y’all appreciate it. ;)

   Nice shot. I like how you positioned yourself so your reflection is in the dark top part of the bubble, which looks shaded by the coral’s overhang. Very strategic :) (I think I can just barely see you in the top part of the bubble, but without a strobe, you’d be impossible to see.)

   How does Loloata diving compare to the sites we visited last year on the Febrina? Are you using your bberry to upload?

   Additionally, what’s particularly interesting about the reflection is if you cropped it so the coral was gone and colored the top part of the bubble sky blue, it would look like a crazy fish-eye shot of an east coast autum scene w/snow on the ground. Trees w/changing leaves, two tall pines, etc. Yes, I have a fertile imagination.

   That’s an amazing shot of a very cool effect. :) And Dave, I was just thinking the same thing. Actually, when I first saw the picture, I thought the reflection was of an autumn forest scene. :)
