Fujifilm FinePix F30 low-light sample images (Photo)

This post is dedicated to Chester, a connoisseur of low-light, compact cameras.

Most of the time, I shoot with Canon digital SLRs, but sometimes I end up carrying around a small, compact digital camera instead. I’ve always really disliked shooting with compact cameras because of their poor low-light performance, but I’ve finally found one that works well. The Fujifilm FinePix F30 is a bit bigger than the usual point ‘n shoots that I normally shoot with (the Canon SD450 and Fujifilm FinePix Z1), but it produces relatively clean images up to ISO 800 and can be pushed to 1600 and 3200 if need be. At 1600, images are still good enough to be resized for the web.
Here are some sample images.
These images were resized to 600×400 pixels using Adobe Photoshop CS2, Bicubic Sharper, and then sharpened at 120%, 0.3 pixels:

These images are 600×400 pixel crops out of the original, untouched photos from the camera. They are saved as PNGs so you can see the original pixels:

That ISO 1600 looks great at web res. Thanks for putting up the samples.
What was the shutter speed on that ISO 1600? Did you hand-hold?

Will be looking forward to pictures on the site taken with the F30 in conditions analogous to ones I’m usually in. By the way, I think you should explore the world of barfly photography. It’s immensely rewarding.
BTW, that Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 I pinged you about is on the market. Still waiting to see some ISO 1600 images. If ISO 1600 is usable, then it’s a winner for me.
