Apple continues to be evil

I like that Apple always markets itself as the good guy, even though they continue to do things like use legal pressure to pester its biggest fans. (Although… that last article I linked is so much like an Onion article that it confused me at first. ;).

Their latest target is Something Awful, whose forums contain a page out of an Apple technical manual that shows why MacBook Pros run so hot:

Don’t apply thermal paste like Apple recommends!

Hey, Apple! Cease & desist me! After all, I’m an ex-Mac user, an ex-Apple employee, and a prospective Switcher. Perfect target.

UPDATE May 24 I hereby partially take back my statement about Apple being evil. It turns out the thermal paste problem might only make a 2-degree difference. Still… it shouldn’t be running so hot.

    I worked at Digidesign during a time when they were threatened with a lawsuit because some guy mailed in letter with an advertising idea that looked something similar to one we created (without us being aware of his letter). I’m sure Apple’s just more, um, protective and paranoid. So the little girl story doesn’t surprise me.

    Apple’s a socialist company (and I don’t necessarily mean that in a bad way). They like to have vice-grip control over their the happiness they offer to the world.

    I’ve been informed that the document published to the web was from an internal technical manual that was confidential and not meant for public consumption. So the cease and desist makes sense.

    STILL, a cease ‘n desist on something like this is just inviting widespread viral sharing…

    I did not know about those cases you linked to in this post. I am not too shocked considering the control Jobs and Apple like to have over their empire.
