Photoshop and Drag ‘n Drop Weirdness

Try this on a Windoze box:

  1. Run Photoshop. Drag an image from Mozilla into Photoshop’s gray background area. You’ll get a dialog box with image size and name pre-populated, but when you click “OK,” Photoshop will open a blank document.

  2. Run Photoshop. Drag an image from Mozilla into Photoshop’s taskbar rectangle, wait until Photoshop gains focus, and then drop the image into Photoshop’s gray background area. You get no dialog box, and the image will open properly.

Lame.

Wow, sweet. I didn’t even know one could do #2. That helps, big-time.

I should have posted this a long time ago. When I figured it out for the first time, I was very happy, and then annoyed that it yields a different result than does #1…

  • http://www.chesternet.org Chester

Well, as someone who never works with dual screens, #2 is much more convenient for me anyway. Nyah-nyah.

    I agree, lame-o. I’m much more of an alt-tabber than a button-hoverer.

    And I like to hy-phen-ate ev-er-y-thing :)

Wierd. I tried it and I can’t reproduce #1. It seems to open the image fine either way, though without any dialog box in either case.

Weird, elliot. That’s what I love about computers: the same actions can produce different effects on different computers. Makes it easy for all of us. :)

Does this work on a mac? I cant get it to work on my mac… only in XP.

    any ideas?

    In CS3 i get this:

The drag and drop operation could not be completed because the file C:\Temp\anyimage.jpg is not ready. Please try to open it again using the Explorer.

From Internet Explorer works fine. Who should I call, John Nack or the FireFox?
