Intelligence Test (sorta)

Take this test. In an hour and fifteen minutes or so, I scored 23, Peter scored 25, and Francis scored 26. In the end, we teamed up and scored 30. NO CHEATING! :)

I gave myself 1 hour for part 2, and scored 15. An’ den, Peter and I collaborated to score 18 before giving up (and going back to normally scheduled work).

Dammit — these things make you want to work on them until you get them all! They also have the wonderful side-effect of making you feel stupid if you give up. I suppose the key to comparing yourself with others is to set a time limit and to have a controlled environment to ensure that no one cheats. :)

Highlight the rest of the entry after you’ve taken the test (hidden text):

In part 1, I didn’t get any of the bible ones, nor the 2nd half of #12, nor #1, which is probably the easiest one in the bunch. There were a few more that were totally obvious that I missed as well (duh!). After we all gave up, we collectively had numbers 1-30, but my brain must work differently because the ones that came easily to me were ones that the others didn’t get (and vice-versa). And for some reason, we couldn’t get 32 to turn green even though we were sure of the answer…

In part 2, I couldn’t for the life of me spell the damned word. Peter and I didn’t get 13, 17, 18, 19, 23, and 24. With Google, we found all of the rest of the answers.

No cultural bias, my ass!

I got 24. (But, I’m not giving up yet!) It took me a while for 32 to turn green also. Turns out, I was misspelling the ‘m’ part of it.

did you spell it right? two el’s and two n’s. =)

aaaugh. i’m up to 27 and not giving up yet, but the last six are driving me bonkers. :)

    There’s no answer key?! Aargh.

For 32 - the M word is 10 letters - you may have been like me and started with a common misspelling.

personally, i think “64 Strings on a Classical Bandura” and “6 Bodies to an Orgy in Canada” are totally legit.

final tally: 29. i blame cultural bias for the remainder.

i can’t believe i more or less spent ALL DAY on this. thanks a lot, Eric. :p

hehehe. i knew it would hook you!

i think i would have gotten many more of them if i had spent enough time on the thing — and perhaps even the bible ones, since eventually you start picking categories and running through possibilities. but you really do have to set an end time, else you might end up wasting quite a bit of time on it. :)

d’oh. it was the spelling on 32. we didn’t allow looking anything up, and i guess i didn’t know how to spell it. tried lots of permutations, but not the dual n’s. :)

Thanks, this damn test drove me crazy. I scored 25 on the first part and only 12 on part two. I need to walk away from that test and get some work done now. arrggghhh. It was fun. I had to pass it on to all my co-workers and hear the laughter and the tears from all around.

thanks eric…. i spent 1.5 hours yesterday trying to figure the last 5 or 6 until i felt guilty and decided i should probably get back to work =)

I got 23 on my first pass (ie, as fast as I could type them in). I’m at 30 right now.

To be fair, though, I’ve seen most of these before, so it’s more a “memory test” than an “intelligence test”… Stil fun, though!

Disappointed that this wasn’t one of them:

i’m with Aaron. they could’ve at least had a self-referential one: 33 is the N of Q in TT.

but yeah, what was up with the biblical stuff? i got one then two others became obvious. not that i “knew” any of them.

i’m at 15 after 20 minutes or so. i have to go now but since i’m “intelligent” according to the test, i guess that’s okay.

fred/eric: yeah — once you get on a topic, it’s easy to get the rest in the bunch. i’m convinced that i would have gotten them eventually, once my mind started wandering in that direction. but who knows. :)

    let’s see some part 2 scores. :)

  19. posted by Emily on Mon, January 30, 2006 @ 12:12 pm

I got 8. sigh Well, I guess I’m really, really stupid.

  20. posted by caro on Mon, February 06, 2006 @ 2:21 am

i only got 15. addicting fo’ sho’. and why is “23 pieces of crud in the hill billy” not the answer? hmm …

  21. posted by caro on Mon, February 06, 2006 @ 1:48 pm

And of course, as soon as I laid my head down on the pillow, the answer to “23 P of C in the H B” suddenly became clear …
