our exhibition

UPDATE 11/03/05 I’ve added additional photos to the gallery.

Last weekend was our ArtSpan open “studio” at Mandy and Elliot’s place in the mission. Rather than opening up any sort of real studio to the public, we decided on a joint show of my marine photography and jewelry from RedStart Design and Elysa Fenenbock. We were the only studio in their building that participated in Open Studios; — unfortunate, becase in the past the old Sears warehouse had their very own Open Studios.

Despite our isolation from other artists, we had a steady stream of people coming in to see our work. It was especially nice to be showing two different art forms (cross-pollination is cool).

Thanks to all of you who came to the show! I was particularly excited to meet Lan and Ben.

Did you do the matting yourself and print the photos on the thicker paper boards? From your experience, is it better to go to professionals or do it yourself?

The Open Studios reminds me of Tokyo Designer’s Block/TBD, SF should have more activities like these where artists from around from different neighborhoods show their work. Unfortunately art is not very widespread around here, hopefully the new DeYoung Museum can bring some momentum get the public more interested in the arts.

Looks like it was a fun event. Never heard of Open Studios before, but I’ve now bookmarked the Artspan page. I’d checked out Redstart’s website quite a while back, via a DailyCandy email, but only now noticed who that is modeling the Subtle Safety Ring!
