my freaky red eye

I’m a wreck. I went to New York over the weekend to participate in Peter’s 30th birthday party (it was a surprise!). The next day, half of my right eye turned completely red. It is not bloodshot — it’s completely smeared with bloody red! But it feels totally normal, so I am guessing that I popped a blood vessel, perhaps when throwing up all the alcohol that my body clearly cannot handle.

As I was going to bed last night, I was suddenly overcome with what felt like a raging fever. I woke up this morning with aches and pains everywhere, and as I sat down at my desk, I somehow hurt my back. Now, it hurts to do just about everything. I can’t walk, I can’t sit comfortably, I can’t move when I’m prone — and on top of all of that, my refrigerator is completely empty. Yippee.

I must recover before I leave for Galapagos on Sunday. It’s never been this bad. I ordered some food and could barely carry the bag from my door to the dining area. :(

More bizarre stuff: my sink just spewed up someone else’s food, and it further revealed that the plumbing underneath the sink itself is not ready for such a backup. Rescue Rooter is on his way. I resent the fact that I have to pay for a plumber because someone else on my line clogged up the pipes.

Update setting this entry to private. too many people are giving me advice.

Nice pic dude ;) As a guy with funky eye shit going on all the time, I can appreciate that ;)

I’m no ophthalmologist, but I’ve had something similar happen (probably due — or at least exacerbated — by similarly booze-related endeavors). If it’s the same sort of thing, it ought to clear up in a day or two. I suggest investing in an eye patch for the good eye so that, during your convalescence, you can at least have a good time pawning yourself off as some sort of demon-spawn.

that looks painful!! hope it isn’t exacerbated by the fact that you had lasik done!!!

  • Son

Eric!!! Now you know what happened to MY eye. Sorry it happened to you too. =( Expect it to be gone in about 3 weeks. Good luck!

  • daff

3 weeks! Too bad. Gone by Halloween…

Eric, perhaps your body is telling you to slow down and take a good rest. A visit to a competent chiropractor for a good adjustment should help you with your back pain. I wish you well.

  • echeng

yeah. have doctor and chiropractor appointments in the AM. i hope they “fix” me before I leave.

  • guest

I would do yourself a favor and goto the doctor first before going to the chiropractor – being that your back pain could be part of a larger picture of larger problem with your generalized malaise, fever, aches and pains. Unless you’ve been cleared by a physician with these types of symptoms, I wouldn’t let a chiropractor near your back – they are not trained to deal with the symptoms you are having. In fact, I just recently saw a case where a chiropractor tore open a large vessel in someone’s neck after doing a neck manipulation – you think a chiropractor would know what to do with that other than call 911?

  • echeng

doctor said it was no big deal and that it would heal naturally. chiropractor visit was ok — not sure if it helped, yet. got some muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatories.

    oh no!
our party left you a wreck! :(
i hope you recover soon. i’m also ready for some peace & quiet after that weekend. i’m done with nyc.

as a mom of two, my advice would be that you eat a dozen pop stickers and also some chou dofu if you can get your hands on it. =p haha!!
