I was just in Taipei a week ago, and it’s interesting how it looks so different through your lens.
Also, I love the self-portrait in the mirror. Everyone looks so happy. =)
I loved that mirror shot too. I also love the pic of the little girl looking up at you.
Should I wait for the text before asking why you and Mr. Lin are holding hands in the picture? Or should I just ascribe it to Taiwanese / Chinese-style show of affection?
yeah. Dunno about the hand holding. But it didn’t seem weird at the time, and he insisted. :). It was hard to communicate because my mandarin is better than my taiwanese is. Anyway, out families have history, and he seemed excited that I was in town.
our old home (and now my aunt and uncles) is right near that 101 building. he hates it. he’s convinced it’s bad feng shui and if there’s an earthquate, they’re doomed! love the fotos! can’t wait till i can go visit taipei again.
maybe it’s just me, but I find that 101 building to be quite an eyesore. It’s a bad mixture of traditional Chinese and modern architecture design elements. Kinda like bad fusion food (a la Ming Tsai). The other bad tall building in Asia that comes to mind is the strange tower with the balls in Shanghai. But that’s just me, I’m sure many others think those buildings are very nicely done.
Eric
I think the word “snake” should be “snack”,isn’t it?
Star from Taiwan
no — in fact, it is “Snake Alley“. Although, my father does sometimes make the two words sound the same (in English). ;) (hi, dad!!)
hey, it might be a tad weird looking, but its not totally ugly. i have to speak up, for my uncle was the architect for 101.
daff! your uncle should have taken me on TOUR! :)
those mantis shrimp look ferocious! did you try any?
I echo daff’s comments. My friend works for the construction company that built the building. ;)
Anyway, it’s cool you got to go up to the top of 101. Back when I was there in January this year, the top wasn’t open to the public yet.
We’ll have to meet up in Taipei and Taichung sometime. I’ll start to travel there once a year for work :)
