Scary-Ass Shit (Photo)

this thing watched me sleep, all night
I woke up this morning to find something on the sliding door. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that the thing was THREE-AND-A-HALF INCHES IN DIAMETER and had EIGHT EYES, TWO HUGE FANGS/INCISORS, and SPIKES ON ITS LEGS; clearly, it was one of the scariest fucking things I had ever seen.
Naturally, I caught the thing and hid it in the closet so that the cleaning lady wouldn’t prematurely dispose of it or die of a heart attack or something.
I related the story to the others while on the dive boat, and Natalie (a visiting dive instructor from Montreal) informed me that she had captured a scorpion in her room just the other day. I quickly hatched a plan to make them fight, but… well, it didn’t happen. I can assure you that there would have been a scary-ass critter duel to the death if Kenny had more vacation time and had been with me on the trip. Damn him! Instead, I just took some photos before hurling it off into the bush, where it landed with a loud *THUMP*.
Wired in French Polynesia (Photo)

paradise incomplete
It sure is purty here. Blues upon turqoise blues settle into layers of calm off in the distance. There is a palpable slowing of the heart, of breathing, of thinking…
Lucien met me at the airport in Tahiti last week, and has been a gracious host. We spent a few days in Fakarava, one of the ends of the earth, and are now in Rangiroa, which is equally as beautiful. On Thursday, I board the Akademik Shokalskiy in Tahiti for 13 days of cruising in the Tuamotus. I fully expect to see lots of sharks.

1-Day Layovers called “Home” (General)
This little British kid just walked into the premiere lounge here at LAX (I’ve only been in one of these things a few times in my life) and said, “This is fantastic! This is REE-ally fantastic! Dad, you’ve got papers (newspapers) here. I’d like a sandwich!” I think he said something about Chardonnay, but I’m not sure. So grown-up, those little Brit kids!
Anyway, I really just connected (via my phone) to post some photos from yesterday and to download one, last batch of e-mails. Saw Vienna, Jim, Elliot, Mandy, Adam, and Sarah while home. Thanks, guys. :) Thanks also to Rosa, who came to pick me up here in LA for a quick, Cuban lunch!
I’m off again, and won’t be back until the 28th. Please leave a message. *BEEP*
