Cool trip. I think something like this is the only thing that will get me in cold water. Find a dry suit I can borrow (can I rent?) and I’m with you on the next one. Great shark shots–especially shooting up when they’re close to the surface. Some of those sharks are pretty rugged/beat up looking. Also, difficult to tell how large they are without some frame of reference. Seemed like 12-15′? I liked the photo of the rock with small streams running down the side, nice. Jim gets points for his creative uses with tuna. :)

Yeah, sharks were 12-14′ — much smaller than sharks at the Farallons. The rugged/beat-up sharks are females with mating scars, mostly, although I have seen males with competition scarring as well.

I liked http://echeng.com/gallery/photo.php?photo=1817 and the one after that. The little striped fishies are cute and the great white shark looks like he’s smiling. :)

HAHAHAHA nice catch Caroline :) For some reason all I see is a shark with big white dentures when I look at that pic – that’s awesome :)

Chum is like mutilated fish/meaty-bits to attract sharks and such to your location. It’s like dropping a mouse into a snake cage basically :P

chum, for us, was edible beef blood mixed with fish chunks, all blended up with an industrial looking mixer in a trashcan.
