while i think the service sounds awesome, i wonder what’s in it for Google. they make their money off of ad revenue, but tacking on ads to this wouldn’t work very well given the nature of mobile applications (keep it small, keep it simple, avoid costly data transfers, etc..).
and this has got to cost Google to develop and run… so where are they recuperating their costs?
i can see it as strengthening the brand, and helping them to maintain their lead in search, but can you put a dollar amount on it? can it be measured? can you calculate what positive effect it might have on the bottom line?
:) i don’t own Google stock. it just seems like something to ponder.
as far as mobile search, including directory searches, goes… you could just do what my sister has a tendency to do… call me and have me look it up for her. now i’m not saying you should call me, but that you can just call someone up and ask them. :) “how do i get to your place? where is that restuarant we are supposed to meet at? do you have so and so’s phone number?”
but vinh, that would like involve talking to like, real live human beings.
