Slashdot reports that D&D is 30 years old. I was a AD&D sort of kid and played it nearly every day for years, starting when I was around 8 years old. One of the comments in the slashdot article points to a comic strip, which I thought was a joke until I got to the end. Actually, even at the end, I still thought it was a joke, but after looking at the page for awhile longer and following some of the links, I was thinking, “please be a joke. please be a joke.” It is, in fact, not meant to be a joke.
When I was in college, friends of mine noticed these “Chic Tracks” laying around, particularly in the bathrooms of bars. Aside from the comedy value, we were intrigued in a Jerry Springer sort of way. My friend actually ordered a box of ‘em for $5 just for the heck of it. (You do these things in college, I guess.) They are real and scary, but if you have a sense of humor, they are actually hilarious.
um, whoa …
i played it a few times as a kid, but … it was mainly a channel for us older sisters to torment our little brothers by making sure they (i mean, their characters, of course) always died a quick death. with no way to fight. the end. muahahahahaa.
Damn, now I feel gypped. After all those years of D&Ding since grade school I didn’t get asked to join a secret occult society or learn any real spells. What was I doing wrong???? Probably cause most of my characters were boring rangers. But then you’d think someone would’ve asked me to join the ultra-secretive USDA Forest Service Special Forces. Bastards.
THAT is some funny stuff! I’ve lost so many friends to D&D induced suicide that I lost count.
