Vienna Teng’s Warm Strangers Release @ Borders

I’ve never seen so many people packed into Borders. (I’m told there were around 350, with CD sales well over the 200 mark) Vienna Teng’s Warm Strangers release show last night was a lot of fun! She’s got this local fan base that includes for some reason many people I know; it’s always neat to see who will show up. As usual, her singing was fabulous, and her commentary, funny. She talked about violating fire code, and keeping the stairwell open in case we had to “flee.” Choice of words has always been one of her fortes. ;)

I tried to take some pictures, but I wasn’t very successful. There was always someone’s head — or a book — between me and her. Ah well.

Afterwards, I caught up with Oliver, his sister, and Leighton at Pluto’s before returning to Borders to help Vienna pack up her stuff. [see some photos]

Sorry I missed it. I had to do some school work for today’s class that wound up being cancelled. Yay.

Hopefully Mona and I will see you Saturday, wish I could have been at the Borders signing though. I’m hoping I’ll get Vienna to sign the CD at the concert though. I hear you are playing in the concert!

Eric, I thought it was a great show! Question: do you know the name of the Chinese song she say that’s on track #12 on the new album? I want to write it down on the cover. English name and what it means please.

Ann — it’s “Green Island Serenade”

Look for it soon on Channel 26, (on Jay Stone Shih’s show, “China Crosstalk”).

I totally saw you in Pluto’s that night–Cyrus and I were sitting at the bar by the window. Thing is, I didn’t immediately make the connection and when I did, I wasn’t sure. Oh well. We heard Vienna at the Stanford Lunar New Year’s banquet and she sounded wonderful. She sang a couple of original compositions and a stunning beautiful Chinese folk song.

Eric! I was looking at Vienna stuff, having heard about her from another Stanford friend and was lucky to stumble upon your journal. I’ve stumbled upon it before, researching anything about classical music often brings me back to you. I’m glad you are continuing to do cool things besides driving YoYo Ma and Edgar Meyer around. And tell Vienna, she’s doing great stuff.
