Shark Diver Magazine

Hey! I have the cover and cover article of the current Shark Diver Magazine (issue #5). I believe the magazine is on the shelves at Barnes & Noble, although I have yet to see it myself.

Here’s how the article is listed in the TOC:

DARWIN WASN’T KIDDING!
Galapagos Adventure

Eric Cheng shows us why Galapagos is still the best place for whales sharks and hammerheads. This article takes us to some of the best diving in the Pacific and has a lot to offer to your “average” explorer.

I’m pretty excited to see it. It’s my second cover! The photos were taken on a trip aboard the Peter Hughes Sky Dancer; you can see them here, if you are interested.

That must be so wonderful to have a job that allows you to travel all over the world and capture the breath-taking sites. You and Vienna Teng have jobs I would absolutely love.

    Congrats! That rocks.

How does it work? Are you surprised when you get a cover? Or do you know it’s coming?

    Kudos, Eric!

Thanks, guys. :) the first time, I was surprised. I knew about this one. But sometimes, you give an editor a photo with the understanding that it may appear in the magazine. money usually comes much later. I’m not sure why money doesn’t follow immediately, but it’s probably just because magazines in the dive industry can get away with not paying immediately.

So the decision to pursue photography was the right one after all, eh? Sure beats the hell out of sitting in a cubicle writing code, doesn’t it.

There are people who stand out from the crowd and often turn passion into excellence. You’re one of those people. That was clear to me when we met six years ago, and it’s still true today.

Nice work, Eric. It’s an honor and a pleasure to know you.

I would just hate to be the photo editor on that one. There was so much amazing stuff in there to choose from.

Er, wait. Galapagos. I was thinking of the Bali trip. Anyway… congratulations! I hope you’re framing your covers.
