Firefox 0.8 (a renamed Firebird) is out. It’s getting better all the time. :) I can’t imagine how IE users are living without tabbed browsing.

thanks for the post! just downloaded it – i can’t believe i am one of the last people to know about tabbed browsing. sigh.

Eh…to me, Alt+Tab is preferable to Ctrl+Tab. I don’t like having browser windows consolidated into one group just like I don’t like Windows XP’s stupid “grouping” in the toolbar.

  • echeng

I prefer to have both options. Often, I control click on all the links I’m interested in reading. If I need to have one open in another window, I just open it in a new window. Easy enough!

  • echeng

oh yeah. no unrequested pop-ups, and a lot of cool extensions. more, great built-in features. :)

Well for Win IE users they can use Avant Browser which is a freeware extension to IE itself.

  • Chester

The last time I tried Mozilla or Firebird or whatever, it felt sluggish, but I’ll give it another shot. It’s funny how I’ve totally gotten used to IE, considering how I used to avoid it as a point of principle.

BTW…got Wordpress installed last night, imported my main Blogger journal and everything seems to be fine, though I have to muck through search-and-replacing file paths and also figure out a weird typographic parsing error. But, anyway…the ball’s rolling, ever so slowly.

make sure you install.. er, change the config I noted in one of my prev entries about firebird/mozilla — in theory, it shaves 0.5 seconds off of every page load.

re: Avant Browser — the screenshot they have on their page looks REALLY UGLY. I hate that “window within a window” paradigm that so many windows apps use.

re: Avant Browser – Well, ugly screenshot aside it’s actually a decent add-on to IE. If you keep the pages always maximized, it’s pretty much exactly like tabbed browsing. It’s just that you have the option of shrinking the size of your tabbed pages. Plus it has a pop-up blocker.
