I’ve sunk to new lows by using my friends to sell stuff. :)

if I only had the money…

  • syndromes

Hey you rat bastard! How much are you selling it for? I may want to trade up from my D30 for the AF improvement alone (if I recall of the top of my head it is much improved over the horrendous D30, no?).

Anyhew, shoot me an email if you have a “sell it now” price or something. I can’t promise anything, but I am interested :) I spoze I could always bid on it ;)

  • echeng

yeah. it’s pretty much never worth it to sell privately. ebay always gets a better price. :)

  • http://www.pbase.com/davepatchen DaveP

Ok, I put in my bid. Isn’t my $250 enough to exceed your “buy it now” price? ;)

  • echeng

dave: you had better buy it if you win. :)

  • http://tontamoo.azn-bish.com tontamoo

competely random, but i am interested in learning some more about photography. i have tried some lighting techniques, angles, and perspectives, with my digital camera, but i want to progress beyond the point-and-shoot phase. my father has an old SLR camera lying around and has agreed to let me “play around with it”. any books that you would recommend for a beginner like myself?

  • http://www.pbase.com/davepatchen DaveP

You had better sell it to me if I win :)

  • http://www.digideep.com Andi

you should add to the description that the camera did also nice pictures of Aline and Laura while in Antibes :-)

  • syndromes

Man, you should rename this entry to “I’ve sunk to new lows by using my friends to sell stuff by WORKING OVER MY FRIENDS WHO WANT TO BUY MY CAMERA AND GIVE IT A GOOD HOME ALL IN THE NAME OF THE DOLLAR CUZ I’M A GREEDY BASTARD!!!”.

Okay, maybe a bit of a long title, but you get the idea ;) hahhaa j/k man, though remember who was in line first if you decide you DO want to sell it privately.

    RAT BASTARD!!! :)

  • echeng

the 10d is a horrible camera to sell privately. people are still routinely paying more than $1400 for it — used — on ebay!

I do have two more auctions up, for D60s. Those would be cheaper. :)

  • syndromes

I’ll just wait for a full-frame sensor canon dslr :)

  • http://www.pbase.com/davepatchen DaveP

    So I won the 10D for $450!? LOL :)

  • http://www.alexking.org/ Alex

Syndromes – the 10D is night and day over the D30 – get one. :)

  • echeng

OK. Now I have a psycho guy who won’t stop calling. This is how it happened:

    1) he e-mailed me about the 10D and wanted to talk about the camera
    2) i gave him my phone number (my cell, since it’s my only number now)
    3) he called. we chatted for 20 minutes about all things photography. he asked many questions — and then asked the same ones again. i gave him an informal offer (price).
    4) he calls again, but i am busy. he calls again. and again. calls about 10 times between 9am and 11:45pm. at this point, i am no longer interested in selling the camera to him, and am not interested in talking to him.
    5) i send him e-mail: i’m not selling the camera to you. stop calling. it’s rude.
    6) he keeps calling (leaves maybe 2 VMs per 5-6 calls)
    7) i send him another e-mail: stop calling. you’re being rude. i’m not selling to you BECAUSE you keep calling.

    he just called me twice.

what the FUCK. YEs. this behavior warrants swearing.

what can I do to make him stop?

  • http://www.aaronlogan.com Aaron

That sucks. Too bad there’s no such thing as a .htaccess file for your phone number, so that you could just block ppl from calling from certain numbers. Maybe, if you have his number from caller ID, you could file a police report and provide his name/number. What you’ve described sounds like if should fall under some classification of harassment.

  • echeng

well, apparently, I have no business ethics. he just told me that via e-mail.

The first time we talked, we chatted for 30 minutes, and in the end I said, “well, here’s the deal. (deal specifics here). think about it, and call me back.”

He took that as, “I have given you a guarantee that i will sell the camera to you.” So he bought a 28-135 lens (which I had recommended as a good starter lens).

Now he has accused me to “luring” him into the deal and causing him to buy an expensive lens.

Please! I’m done with him. It’s not a done deal until you pay, OR until BOTH PARTIES agree on the deal in a sort of virtual handshake. We had no handshake.

Anyway, his e-mail is blocked, and if he calls again, I’ll have to take action to “discourage” him from calling again.

  • Michele

Make sure he’s banned from your auction – if you don’t know his eBay handle, eBay lets you look it up when you’re signed in since you’re the seller.
If he calls again, tell him you just found out that eBay doesn’t allow transactions outside of eBay. It’s true, but of course nobody cares, people sell outside of auctions anyway and eBay doesn’t enforce it.

  • http://www.taekim.com Tae

Let me guess you’re going to upgrade to: Canon EOS-1D Mark II

  • echeng

    very good, Tae.

It’s the perfect 2nd camera for me. It fits in the same underwater housing (one minor issue, but not a big deal, esp. if used as a backup), uses the same batteries, and is a good complement to the 1Ds’ capabilities.

thanks for the advise, Michele. I don’t think he’s interested in talking to me anymore. although, he did say that perhaps someone in the future might give me a lesson in ethics.

  • echeng

    $1,410.03 !!! I think Vienna’s blessing on the camera helped. :)
