I’ve picked-and-plucked the foam in a Storm Case model iM2500 (the largest carry-on size allowed in an airplane. it’s actually smaller than the bags that many people carry on, but I decided to be conservative, adhering to airline-published dimensions.), and it fits all of the non-housing camera gear I need for a typical underwater photo trip!

Packed Storm Case iM2500
In the case, I can fit: Canon EOS 1Ds body, 2 x Canon D60 bodies, 100-400L IS, 15mm full-frame fisheye, 50mm macro, 100mm macro, 28-70/2.8L, extra 1Ds battery, two extra D60 batteries, and a CF card case.
Not bad. I’ll have to carry a flash, lens cleaning supplies, and chargers separately, but I had to do that previously with the J-1 as well. Now I can carry all of my stuff onto a small boat without worrying that my equipment will be destroyed. :)
Oh, and I highly recommend Cases4Less.com. They will beat any advertised price by 5%, and I have had nothing but excellent service from them.
Unrelated: Congratulations to Dave Patchen! His photo is photo of the day at Steve’s Digicams. :)
That’s one impressive picture with three digital SLRs in it. Between you, me, adam, and jim watson, how many cameras is that? we could open up a store!
kenny - every time you post, you reassure all of your loving friends that you are, in fact, alive.
you mean, jim WATT? he has quite a few digital SLRs. you know, aaron ordered a camera recently. it’s BETTER than yours is. :)
Nice case! Is it handcuffed to your wrist while traveling? btw, I thought you carried a 16-35/2.8L also, is that not one of your travel lenses anymore or do you pack it seperately?
hey, marty. yeah, i still have to figure out where that 16-35 is going to go. :) Currently, it’s being repaired by Canon — the AF is not really working properly anymore!
I used to only travel with the 16-35 and not the 28-70, because the 28-70 is hard to use with the D60. However, now I have to carry an extra lens with me. I am guessing that i will have to choose between the 28-70 and the 100-400, if I am to travel “light.” ;)
Thanks for the mention. Awesome case and contents, I bet you can’t wait to get the new 1Ds underwater :) I spent part of my afternoon playing with the Oly C-5050 at Keeble…I think I may upgrade.
I’m curious how much no fault insurance coverage on the contents of that case would run. =o
It’s not too bad, actually. I insure through http://www.h2oinsurance.com, and only insure “no-fault” for things I take underwater, or on boats (things that I actively use on boats, so if it’s going to sit safely in the cabin, I don’t insure it). I believe they charge somewhere in the range of 2% a year.
